Congrats to Mike Rakosi--the King of Vintage Basketball on New #1 set.

Congratulations to Mike Rakosi who debuts at #1 in 1957-58 Topps Basketball with a 8.13 set rating with the name "Mona Lisa's Smile". Mike also has the top rated 1948 Bowman set with an astounding 8.54 set rating. If he would post it, Mike would likely complete the trifecta of the top 3 basketball sets with the 1961-62 Fleer set where I believe he has a set rating of at least 9.1.

When I first corresponded with Mike I thought he was a lunatic--now that I have met with him several times I know he's a lunatic but he is also a great guy who has gone well out of his way to find cards for my sets.

There have been some very impressive basketball sets listed lately. Mike has some awesome cards and in my brief exchanges with him he seems like a great guy.
  • Get Mike on the boards if he's not yet here.

    Tom,

I wish he would--he is a smart, opinionated colorful guy with a fascinating business history--I would tell more but I do not want to talk out of school. He does read the boards and when I see him has some advice for me. I will let him comment on it. Another real interesting guy is his friend the Rabbi--another great vintage collector--well known among long-time dealers.
