is it better to crack open and send in.....

or is it better to crossover in the same holder. Do you have a preference? Why do you like that way? Just curious.

The world meets no one half way. If you want it you have to go get it.

If I'm reasonably confident of the crossover -- I keep it in the same holder. I've found that after a good deal of time, I have a fairly good feel on the 8 and 9 crossovers whether or not a card will crossover to the equivalent grade of the other company's holder. And if it is borderline -- I usually know why.

Some people swear by the breakout -- perhaps with modern cards it makes more sense. With modern cards, I do more often breakout (my eyes are not so good at differentiating modern 8s, 9s and 10s). But with vintage, I usually keep it in the same holder. Too much of a risk of damage -- even if you are careful.

Also -- crossing over 10s is next to impossible. Even though I've had it done -- I am not confident that *any* grading company would consistently grade a card a 10 on the breakout and resubmit. Those I leave in the holder for sure.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
