Whats the highest grade a card can recieve with a crease?

I have considered sending in my 1951 Bowman Mickey Mantle RC? The card has a light crease that is only visible on the back of the card. It is centered well and has good color with the corners being probably in the Ex/Ex-Mt range. I understand that a pic would be helpful but based on this criteria what grade could I expect to recieve on this card. I will probably end up having it graded anyway just because I never plan on selling it. It was a christmas present to me when I was 8 years old. Glad I asked for that rather than more 1987 Topps wax boxes!!! Anyhelp on this would be helpgul. Thanks.

  • according to psa's grading criteria, a psa 4 can have a slight crease. but that's probably a best case scenario. either way i'd have the card graded. i've seen that card sell on ebay in psa 4 and below and it still demands a premium. but if you're not gonna sell it, it's just a personal preference of what is more appealing to you.

  • I have had a few cards that looked like lock 8's. They came back 5's. In the right light, I could see a very short very light crease.
  • 5 is the highest it can get with a non-visable surface wrinkle... have had that happen several times.
  • A PSA 5 can have a light crease. That's the best you will do. In my opinion, it's worth it to get the Mantle graded.

Looking for well centered 1958 topps baseball psa 8 and up. Also dying for a 70 Aaron All Star in PSA 9.
  • I'd agree with the other posts.

I've had a solid card from the 1950s go in that came back a 5 (minor, minor crease that I couldn't see until I put it in the right light)
  • Agreed that PSA 5 is the highest grade that it can receive. With the Ex/Mt to Ex corners it will probably drop it to PSA 4 or 3.....still worth the grading.

My collection currently if filled with PSA 5's with light creases (on the reverse, not the photo gloss) that would otherwise be 8's or 9's as to centering and corners.

I will pay PSA 6 SMR price for any of these cards (any card pre 1972, stars only 1972 to present). Please pm or email me at scoppe67@msn.com.

Obviously the term "spooning" has a more practical than romantic definition for some of us!
