Ten day auctions........worth it?

I've been trying to decide for myself if the peanuts ebay charges for ten day auctions are worth it, overall.
On one hand you get three extra days of exposure for not too much money.

But most ebayers are used to the seven day thing, not to mention those three extra days seem like an extra week, waiting for the auction to end.

Anyone else think about this?

I only use the 10 day auctions when there's a holiday sometime during the 7 day period. I figure the extra 10 cents gives people more time to catch the auction when they're busy doing other things.

But, I don't use it very often.

I used it when selling $5,000+ listings and made sure that it covered 2 weekends.

    Exactly!

On high dollar items, list a 10 day auction starting on Thursday night around 10-11PM eastern time (auction will end on Sunday). You have the added benefit of two full weekends of potential bidders searching on ebay for an additional 10¢. If you can't afford this, you have no business listing on ebay to begin with.

As a bidder I HATE 10 day auctions! I tend to be impatient and I hate to see an item that I am interested in be on my "watchlist" that long. There have been times that I been watching a 10 day item and have spent the moey on a 3, 5, or 7 day auction instead. The high $$$ item argument is the only time I would use a 10 day auction unless I will be out of town for a week, then I might go the 10 day route also.

  • Combine 10-day auctions with BIN and get the best of both worlds. Impatient people can't resist hitting the BIN vs. waiting 10 days. Even the patient ones hesitate to let the item they want lie there for the entire time.

Total extra cost = $0.15, what a bargain to close a few sales early.
  • I agree with Toppsgun. I almost always use 10 day auctions and either use a low starting bid with no reserve, or I put a starting bid at what I need to sell the item at (to insure a profit), and then for 10% more I include a buy it now. If you list cards on Thursday (9-12 PM EST) and use a 10 day auction you get probably at least 50% more exposure by having a 10 day aucion. This way your items are listed for 2 weekends (The prime viewing days on EBAY). Unless you are selling cards for less than $3.00 each then the dime for the 10 day auction is well worth it .

I thought everybody only surfed e-bay at work image

seriously... despite the good points and logic of this discussion, I am not convinced that people do more e-bayin' on the weekends. I remember a while back when everbody had to have the sunday night "prime-time", it got e-bay and e-snipe so bogged down that it became counter-productive.

edited to add: Scotty, long time no little purple velvet pouches from Detroit....wassss up ?

I use the 10 day auctions when I list cards but I'm on the road and cant scan til I get home. Which is usually a couple of days before the auction ends. I always use the BIN feature. I offer at a reasonable price and you would be surprised at the percentage of auctions that I have end with the BIN feature.

  • Vargah only uses when listing $5,000+ cards . Wow!
(not $4,000 cards?) The extra dime doesn't pay off?
Just a little gas. Love ya.
