Frank Leone, quoted from the CONECA home page. This was also reported to a couple of mailing lists by Rich Schemmer, who was in attendance at this show:
<< <i>October 12, 2003 -- Pete "DaNutt" Bishal passed away on the morning of October 12th, 2003. Pete was attending the WESPNEX coin show in New York and died from an apparent heart attack just before leaving his hotel room to set up for the Sunday morning show.
Anybody that knew Pete could easily verify he was “DaNutt”, even Pete’s business card listed his company name as “DaNutts.” Pete was always loud and boisterous, quick with the jokes, and loved a good time.
He and I spent several hours together on Saturday at the show swapping stories and coins. We traded jabs, and even joked about his false teeth. Nothing was off-limits to Pete, he was a happy-go-lucky man. More importantly, he was a genuinely good man.
At the show, late afternoon Saturday, Pete slept at his table with his head in his hand, elbow on top of his display case. The dealer next to him slept with his head back and mouth dropped open. I joked with John Bachman that I wish I had a camera to capture this “classic moment in coins.” Now, more than ever, I really do wish I had a camera.
Pete was certainly original and unique. He is credited with coining the name CONECA and was a distinguished researcher of Morgan Dollars. I for one, will always remember Pete and rest assured, the Lord is going to be enjoying Pete’s company.
Anyone that would like to send a sympathy card. Pete’s long time girlfriend can be reached at: Jenneta Fain, PO Box 3273, Falls River, MA 02722

Few who had the pleasure of meeting or dealing with Pete will ever forget the experience.

Do you know how "young" DaNutt was? Don't think he was to advanced in years. I'm shocked and at the same time dismayed as I was patiently awaiting his proposed completed research on the 1878 7/8TF varieties. I wonder will someone else pick up the torch.
I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.

Bio
DaNutt's Errors is a long established, Massachusetts based, error Coin business dating back to 1980. DaNutt's Errors is founded and run by Mr. Pete Bishal.
Mr. Bishal handles all types of foreign and domestic error coinage while specializing in 1878 Morgan Dollar errors and varieties. At one time, Mr. Bishal owned all 4 of the 1878 VAM 44 type of Morgan Dollars. Over the years he has also owned or handled 90% of all of the 1878 VAM 44's ever discovered.
A book on George T. Morgan's development of the 1877 Pattern halves and their evolution was authored by Mr. Bishal. This book chronicled the day by day work that Morgan did to perfect the 1878 Dollar design. Portions of this book have been published in NECA's Errorscope from 1978 to 1980 as one page articles.
In 1990, Mr. Bishal wrote Chapter 5 of the VAM Book and furnished the authors with every Pattern Half photo to be included in the book.
Contributions have been made to Bower's Silver Dollar Book, Breens book and virtually every error book printed including Alan Herberts Error Encyclopedia.

Pete was a great guy. I never met him in person but have had several conversations with him via internet about error coins.
He will be missed.
Richard.
Sad to see him go - you'll be missed DaNutt.
