I posted this message on the regular boards and it was suggested that i post it here:
Hi.
Any help on the following would be greatly appreciated:
I just received the grades from my latest PSA submission and was elated to find out that i received a PSA 9 on a 1970 Topps Ted Williams (#211). According to the latest population report, this is the only PSA 9 out there.
I plan on selling this card and would like to know How should i proceed to receive the highest price on this card (or any low population PSA graded card in general). Should i consign it to a sportscard auction house like Superior? Should i call the dealers listed in SMR with the hopes that they might have a customer building a Mint 1970 set? Or should i simply list it on Ebay.
If you think Ebay is the way to go, what auction details should i select? i.e. length of auction, starting price, and reserve (if any)?
Any input would be extremely helpful as i don't believe i have seen this question addressed on the boards before.
Thanks!
Michael

To get the most money for this card, put it on ebay. There are at least 3 collectors of this set (it used to be 4 before I sold mine) who will pay top dollar for this card. Chris Renaud, Chris Klinger, and vmfa_vet (the buyer of my 1970 set on ebay) are all actively collecting this set in the highest grade possible. There are also a couple of others who may jump in.
Whatever you do, don't pull the auction if it looks like it is going to go for nothing. It may only be at $50 or so up until the last few minutes, but I guarantee there will be some last minute sniping to drive that price a lot higher.
Good luck. Let us know when the auction has been posted. I will personally contact vmfa_vet to let him know about it.

congrats on the grade. no matter how you sell the card, the more people who know about it the more intrest you will have. good luck
John... i respect your opinion but you never know who will come out of the wood work at any time.

I would not hesitate to put it up on eBay and let the "big boys" fight it out. I did check the pop report and it shows there are 2 9's, which corroborates Chris' post about there being another example. Still, it should fetch quite a pretty penny!
Congrats!
Your right..I should not have given any plugs. Put it on eBay and hype it up....you should do well!

I would definately list it on e-bay.I would also post it on the Buy/Sell/Trade board. It would not be a bad idea to also check out the 70 set registry and e-mail anybody that has a high GPA for that set and give them a heads up.Some might not appreciate the e-mail but I think most will.

Looks like two of the big dogs collecting the 70 set know that you've got it. When you post it on eBay, just finish this thread by saying - thanks for all the advice - its on eBay as #123456789.
With any luck - you'll get a real nice price for it. Without any luck, you'll drop the box after the postman hands it to you and crush only the Williams card!
Sets - 1970, 1971 and 1972

outerbankyank on eBay!
I appreciate all of the responses i have received. It is great to know that I can come on to this message board and get some useful information beyond the usual "Yankees Rule" and "Buccaneers suck" postings.
As soon as i receive the card from PSA i will scan it and list it on Ebay and will post the info on this message board.
Thanks for pointing out that this card is a 1/2, not 1/1 as originally posted. I didn't realize that there was a lag between the actual grading of the card and PSA updating the population figures.
FYI: three years ago i auctioned of card #247 (yankees team card) of the 1963 Topps Baseball set. At the time it was a 1 of 1 (and i believe it still is) I believe SMR at the time was $300. It closed on EBAY for over $1500.
Thanks again for the insight! I can be contacted at MASS35@aol.com
