TAKE CARE WITH FALSE EBAY E-MAILS

Hi Friends,

Take care with e-mails informing that your account was suspended and you need "re-establish" through immediate information of your user name and password.

The appearance of the e-mail is perfect, inclusive the fonts and logos, but is totally fake.

I got one from "ebay security" asking for stuff I have no intention of sending them.

    The return address was ebay@ebay.com.
If this is fake I don't understand how the criminal is going to intercept my response.

  • Got mine yesterday. Simplest thing to do is see if you can log in, then hit the delete button.
  • The return address may say ebay@ebay.com But is is pretty easy to fake an address with embeded code.

I have seen hundreds of these. Only idiots will respond. That is why they exist, because so many idiots will respond.

    Really? Tell me more.

  • If you look at header, It is NOT eBay.com it is <aibo.runbox.com> This is a classic "spoofed address". Spoofing addresses mean that you have the ability to make the user think that they are sending to a known address when you are in fact sending to an undercover address. Meaning....You just got spoofed!!! If you do an internet search on the primary address that comes to you, the you will see that these are not the addrersses or IP ownership of EBAY.COM! I've been in the network consulting business for over 18 years and know how to look at these situations. DO NOT REPLY to these emails. Period. You could open yourself to "mirroring" and let someone see your keystrokes over the internet! If you have replied to any of these bogus emails.... you need to make sure you do not have a mirroring app. loaded as a result. They can hit you now or later. If, again, you did reply to any of these potiential scam emails, you need to run an updated virus protection software that includes the detection of this type of worm. I only wish that I had kept the header data on the email that I got so I could post it here for others to see. It had absolutly nothing to do with ebay.com! (although it looked like it did) This is the most realistic spoof I have seen since Microsoft got their butt handed to them 7 years ago!

idiot might be a little harsh...
i believe a "unsuspecting innocent" would be more proper... as there is a obvious attempt at deception going on here.
  • When you get the emails, you can forward them to ebay at the following address: spoof@ebay.com

I am not sure what action ebay is taking, but hopefully something. Besides the potential ebay identity theft, these just get annoying.

    You are absolutely correct Mike!
Ebay is being totally compromised in this situation. We as users and customers are the ones neglected here. Although they are taking the same Bu11$hit stance as they always have (and that is do nothing). Someone there needs to alert the users/customers as to what is happening. There should have been a mass mailing without any reply necessary to alert their customers/users to this breach of security. NOT just stay on the sideline and do nothing. It’s going to be interesting to see what the market’s position is on this type of intrusion. But their attitude is… sweep it under the rug or never acknowledge it, and it’ll go away! Has anyone tried to contact customer service lately?

I just got one today. I believe it's the first one for me. It went into my BS file, where all my filtered "crap" goes.

It looks like I've already replied to this. No. Someone else likes my icon. image
