1932 Sanella Margarine

I recently bought an almost complete set of these, and would like to send them in to be graded. Nothing special, probably Ex-Ex+ on most. I would appreciate it if anyone could direct me to a place where I could get a checklist, preferably one in English! My German ain't so good.image

Thanks in advance.

  • All I could find (so far) is that it is a 112 card set. Babe Ruth is the only Major League player included in the set. These cards seem to be identical to the 1933 Astra Margarine set produced a year later.

I'll do some more digging, but, in the mean time, please post scans of a few of these cards. I'd love to see them.

    JEB.
  • I've owned a few of the Babe Ruths. There's two different versions where the back is a little differently arranged. The Astra version I understand is extraordinarily rare.

    JEB,

After recounting my cards, I have all 112. Not sure why I thought I only had 108. I've done the web search thing and it's coming up empty.

    Gemmint,

I believe the different "Types" are in regard to where the Sanella is written on the back. Either centered or to the left.

  • Playball, it's coming back to me now. The Type 1 has the workd "Sanella" centered on the back. The Type 2 has "Sanella" closer to the bottom of the back. Supposedly the Type 2 is much more rare, but frankly when I used to search for these cards I noticed the Type 1 was the more rare card.

So which Type do you have? May we see the Ruth?

    Gemmint,

I have the Type II set. The Ruth isn't the greatest, but it's still the Babe. During your search, did you ever come across a way of organizing them? All the backs are the same except for the portion at the top, which describes the person and/or sport.

  • Hey not a bad Ruth!

I think this may help you...

    Actung!

I've seen many times when the card is listed as a 1932 card, not sure why. Some of the cards are "numbered" as to which page they were supposed to be glued onto in a book that was designed for them. Some cards, like the Babe, were not numbered.
  • BTW, I just check the POP report and it seems to "confirm" my theory that the Type 1 is actually the rarer card. There have been 59 Type 2 Ruths graded compared with only 17 Type 1 Ruths graded. Once again it can be found under 1932 baseball. Other cards are listed under 1933 baseball, but no Ruths.
