For the record... my sold coins

I recently sold a large selection of coins, some of which are now on ebay from the dealer that I sold them to. Yes, I am bidding on some of them and wouldn't mind getting some of them back at rock-bottom prices -- if that's possible. Other coins have been sold by the dealer to other collectors in private sales. Some of you have emailed the dealer questioning my bids. Because of his policy of confidentiality he has not responded to the emails, but I am commenting here. cheers, alan mendelson

Alan very odd indeed, you have bid on 16 of them. Oh well whatever, coincidences do happen. What policy of confidentiality are you referring to? If the seller bought them all he needed to do was email me back to state that. I hardly see how that involves breaking any confidentiality. If he didn't buy them and has them on consignment then I can understand that.

IrishMike: I dont know what confidentiality policies different dealers have, but apparantly you spoke or emailed him before he spoke with me, and I think he was trying to respect my privacy regarding the coins. I think that is a proper way to operate.

By the way, about half of the coins I bid on were not coins that I sold, but are coins of a series I am thinking of collecting now. As you know, Ive been discussing what new series I might move into next, and these other coins might well be the series.

Unfortunately, when I tip my hand as to what I'm going to collect, prices seem to shoot up. This incident might force me to rethink my next collection objective.

You see-- confidentiality can be very important.

    Alan,

Maybe you need a new userid for when you are buying.

Alan is paranoia setting inimage. I was simply looking at coins for sale on Ebay and noticed that you had bid on several of the same ones that I was looking at, all of which were listed by sale by one seller and which you had mentioned on this forum that you had for sell. This seller also advertises in his sales that he will list coins for others and collect a commission for selling them. I inquired with the seller, not you to verify that I was not bidding against the owner of the coins. Also this seller happens to be a member of these boards. Why the seller decided to contact you rather than answer my email is open to conjecture since he hasn't contacted me.

I seriously doubt what any of us one collects will affect the market much or steer others to collect that particular coin. Anyway, happing collecting.

Edited to add: I have been collecting proof quarters a lot longer than ebay or these boards have been around.
