'04 Fleer Authentix box break!

I also opened UD Hardcourt, but it was sooo bad I would not list it!! Got LeBron James Floor card #1, but each box has a floor card of him in it. There are 12 in the set for those who want to put the set together....

I like the Authentix, very nice looking cards. Here's the break down:

You suck fleer! AGAIN....put some real freaking value into boxes will ya?

I have to admit there is NO value in basketball cards today. Playoff is not making them so
that leaves you with three cheap companies. In order to pull a big LeBron card you must
by boxes and boxes of UD.....topps puts out some decent stuff, but the big deal with
fleer was always the autographics......not only are the odds like 1:300 but they are
redemptions...and not that great to begin with. Does anyone else feel like there is
NO bang for the buck on these boxes??

I can't remember a basketball box that has actually been fun to open, any comments?

joestalin- I was just waiting for you to add your cheery words to my post, lol.....Is there anything you enjoy about collecting?? I thought the Authentix was fun to open, but I like to open all new stuff.

Kornboy- The rookies were: Mickael Pietrus and Brian Cook. They are numbered to /1999. I also got a Ray Allen Floor, the LeBron Floor, and a MJ Heart of a Champion insert. I just happened to get a bad box, it happens! LOL!

Don't redemptions bother you in the least? Didn't fleer just come out with EX? They can't even get us
time to breathe and they are out with another product! After the expiration date these boxes are
worthless and little kids won't know that because neither fleer or beckett has the sack to put it in
writing.

Its very simple, if you don't have the real autoed card, then don't make the set! So far Fleer has
promised us more autographs than last year but they have been all redemptions, thats a joke. Im
sorry you don't see that , and sorry to rain on your parade. Good Luck

The only redemption I will ever buy is an Upper Deck redemption.

I just like the fact I can check it online, and I do not have to wait on a phone for an hour getting the run around.

I agree though, all redemptions suck. If you do not have the card, dont put the redemption in a pack.

Nice AUthentix box Joyce. Your's was much better then mine. I got one base set parallel card #/250 of Tony Delk. My GU were ripped jerseys of: Eddy Curry, Kenyon Martin and Carlos Boozer. My rookie cards were:
Kendrick Perkins Club Box #099/100 (some chipping on the bottom)
Leandro Barbosa #/1250
Dahntay Jones #/1250
Brian Cook #/1250

and I also got the regular assortment of inserts.

My box of Hardcourt had Lebron floor card #6, Jason Kidd jersey/floor combo, RCs #/1999 of Mike Sweetney and Aleksandar Pavlovic and MJ Heart of a Champion #1.

I think I'm done with the Hardcourt. I wasn't impressed at all.

Congrats on the nice pulls Duncangal; glad to hear you got the Duncan base cards also.

Do have to comment on the redemption issue tho. The ONLY companies we have ever had ANY luck with when it came to redemptions was BAP(Hockey) & Donruss. Both of these companies were very quick to send out the cards we were redeeming; both within 6 weeks.

McGradyMVP-Have to totally disagree with you on Upper Deck redemptions. You might be able to check online for the status, but sadly we found out that makes NO difference. We waited almost 1 year to the day to get one of our redemption cards from them & that was only after repeated phone calls, emails & even discussions for over 3 months with one of UD managers. Upper Deck is one of the WORST & we will NEVER buy another of thier products that has any redemptions in it.

It's not fair for these companies to be slighting collectors like they do; they are just chasing that almighty $$ & leaving disappointed, upset collectors in thier wake. Think of all the young collectors being turned off by the problems these companies are creating. This hobby is suppose to be fun, but some of these companies are sucking all the fun out of it with thier greed.

After reviewing your hardcout box, duncangal, and gettinout's, I may decide not to get Hardcourt. As some may have known, for Christmas I get an assortment of basketball boxes(usually 4-6) and mainly of my choice adding up to around $300-$400. I chose UD Hardcourt last year and was impressed with the box, I guess because I pulled two good cards of Nets players(K-Mart auto and Kidd floor) as well as a Yao Ming rookie(bv $80). I got the box for $36 I believe. The bv on those three cards are $115+, so I got the box for a fraction of bv. I was planning on picking up Hardcourt again this year, but then, maybe not. The big attraction will be the LeBron James floor, but yet again, it is only a floor piece. I didn't choose Authentix last year, but may lean towards it this year. It seems like a pretty fun product to open. Although, I'm not a fan of redemptions, yet not totally against them, I would rather have the card in the pack. I bought Fleer Ultra last year, pulled 4 rookie redemptions of players that weren't even worth the price of postage to send them in. The redemptions were glossy, I put regular pen on all four and ruined them. Oh well, I got two out of four back - Ryan Humphrey and some other guy. I don't even know what I did with them. I probably took them out of the plastics I got them in and threw the cards out. But, I sure hope that this year, like last year, I make the best box choices to improve my collection and get my money's worth out of this Christmas. Best of luck to the rest of you guys box breaks.

Thanks for all the comments everyone. I didn't know I would start a debate about redemptions, lol....They are a pain to wait on, and I have done more than my share of it, lol. I just think it is fun to see what people pull from boxes to kind of give others the idea of what is good to get or not. I myself would not recommend Hardcourt, but someone else might open a great box of it. The more input that we get tho, the more we can judge it. I like to see how others do, and no matter how bad, don't like telling them, geez, your box sucked! I think the person themselves know that, and what is good to them may not be good to someone else. Just try and be a little considerate of peoples feelings, lol...The hobby is still fun to me, and if it wasn't, I'd get out of it! Just my 2 cents!

Agreed, box breaks are the coolest thing on this board. A guy was doing a few leaf certified
football boxes on the beckett boards and pulled a Marcus Allen Patch auto...he had one box left for a friend he
was saving and we all told him to bust it! He did and pulled a McNair Auto jersey of 9!

I don't doubt that you are a smart collector and capable of making wise decisions, but there are others
here who only can buy a few packs at a time or a box every month, and there are certain products
that just will NEVER deliver.

I don't think there is anyone here who likes redemptions. You figure it cost about 5 bucks to send
it in with insurance and all that...how many redemption cards are worth that cost?

Personally I'm not too fond of redemptions, but this year, I've had great luck in getting them- darko (3 finest; 3 topps; 1 ultra), carmelo (2), tj ford (3), and some others. I've sold them all on ebay w/the exception of the carmelo (1). This is b/c of past experience w/not getting redemptions back until the cows came home. It's also b/c most redemptions- outside of veteran/proven players- don't tend to hold their value long run. But enough about the pros/cons of redemptions.

As for box opening, my theory on boxes is the same as my theory on gambling in Vegas (I love Blackjack) and investing in the stock market- I don't spend $ i can't afford to lose, and some days/boxes will be better than others. I think the problem is that more and more 'collectors' (I hesitate to use that word) aren't truly collectors- they're teenage gamblers looking for a big hit off a box so they can sell it on ebay and buy whatever it is young people (LOL I sound old) buy these days. Rather than learning about players (or watching games), it seems like many 'collectors' EXPECT each and every pack/box to be like winning the lottery. The card makers owe you NOTHING beyond (ideally) a high quality product.

When I was a kid (which really wasn't that long ago), I loved going to the grocery store/local card shop (this was pre-ebay days and there weren't that many card shops) and spending 25 cents to buy a wax pack. I still buy the old wax packs off Ebay simply for nostalgia purposes. Personally I preferred Topps b/c I LOVED their bubblegum as well as how the cards looked. To this day, Topps is my favorite product to open- even though I haven't "hit the jackpot" really on a Topps product since I can't remember when (though I did get 2 Topps 1st Edition Carmelos, Lebrons and Darkos this time). I think I was brain washed by ingesting so much of their gum lol Not to mention you couldn't beat the price- 15 cards for 25 cents. There was no hope of a game used, auto, or #d card in those days- your greatest hope was for a rookie card. I pulled several 85 McGwires from Topps- I still have every one of those cards and would never part w/them (at least not until I die). I also pulled a Mattingly and Clemens RC- again, I have them all and won't part w/them for the life of me. Back then, the point of getting packs (for me) was to read about the players and to build sets. I still have my 84 and 85 topps sets I built by hand, along w/several other partial sets.

On that note, i'm off to do one of my favorite activities- go to my local shop and buy a few packs- and perhaps a box or 2.
