More email scamming of Registry... Now with a Staff to handle it??!!

Ok, I have complained about this before, but recently
I got another one of those UNsolicited spam emails
from someone I never heard of that wants to sell
me Everything I ever needed for my registry sets.

Now this guy (morty24) was very nice
and really just wants to make a sale, he sent me
4 different emails in 2 days.

Now here is the thing....

I nicely requested that he remove me from his list
and he replied with this:

<<HI JEFF, IT ISN'T A LIST REALLY. IT IS THE E-MAIL OFF THE SET REGISTRY. I
HIRED A KID TO GET THE E-MAILS AND SEND THEM OUT. I'LL TELL HIM YOUR E-MAIL.
ALSO I WILL GO THROUGH THE SET REGISTRY TO SEE WHAT ELSE YOU ARE LISTED ON.
PLEASE EXCUSE MY MISTAKES. BELIEVE ME YOU DON'T WANT THE E-MAILS, I DON'T
WANT YOU TO GET THEM. THANKS. MORTY24>>

He has staff assigned to search the registry
for emails to spam. Am I the only one that thinks this Stinks?

I think it's great actually. I post my email so that if someone takes the time to go through my sets and offer me a trade/sale...I can consider the offer. It's not like they are taking your address and offering male enhancement pills.

If it upsets you so much, why not remove your email from the registry? One would have to assume that you welcome emails, since you post your address publicly. It's not a hard thing to fix.

    Regards,

    Alan

ALAN - I agree, if someone contacts me w/ cards I need for a registered set, and they are in my $ range, fantastic. I have made many great deals by people contacting me out of the blue. If it sounds bogus, I tell them to ship in advance w/ an invoice for payment. I've never been burned, nor has the seller...jay

I think I've received only one unsolicited e-mail by having my e-mail address listed. Certainly only one commercial one. But the sender of that e-mail has turned out to be one of my top sources for cards for my sets. Who knows? Morty24 may have been a great connection. I wouldn't wholly dismiss someone as a potential connection just because they e-mailed me out of the blue through the Registry.

only time it bothers me is when someone says they have a card i need... great I think at first,
but oh no,............the card is being auctioned on the almighty e-bay (as it is "the only fair way" to sell sportscards anymore) and just hasn't recieved many bids yet... and my "new friend" would like me to step in and help them make some $$ ......and couldn't give a rats eye if I get it for my set.

I usually just cancel my snipe and e-mail the confirmation from e-snipe as a response.

I love to get help, but can't live with being patronized.

I do business with Morty24, great seller. Also, in my set registry comments, I always state my e-mail address so people can let me know if they have something I need.

  • I agree. I've received a number of trade or sell offers this way. I've also purchased cards from Lyle both on ebay and through his direct e-mail offers. As long as it's an offer for a set I'm actually working on, I welcome the offers.

  • I've bought a lot from Morty24 recently; mostly 1969 Topps Football PSA 9's; great transactions from ebay. I wish he'd contact me directly with some cards I need!

I've bought and sold many cards that way. As stated earlier, just remove your e-mail from the Registry. Otherwise, why do you have it there?
  • If he or anyone else has PSA graded cards i need for my sets they can email me anytime! I will even make it easy for them, hey kid my email address is: SUPERPUNK813@YAHOO.COM

I always thought that to be one of the benefits of the Registry. A place where others can see what I have and what I need. I welcome any offers for cards i need. Worst that can happen is that I say no. Morty24 is a solid seller as well.

    Just my opinion of course...

    Jeff,

I hate to sound like a "joiner" but I concur with the rest of the posts.I think Alan puts it best in that if you remove your e-mail address from the set registry that would partially eliminate your problem. If you have your PM turned on then people who want to contact you on this board will be able to do so and those unwanted e-mails will not originate from this site.I have been contacted this way also and have ended up with a few good sources from this avenue.

I would probably contact Morty and see what he has. From the sound of the posters here, this guy might be a valuable source of cards for you also.

Please be kind to me. Even though I'm now a former postal employee, I'm still capable of snapping at any time.

I also think its great that people are checking my sets--seeing what I need and e-mailing me what they can offer. I do not generally have time to search ebay for my sets and more and more I find I am buying significant quantities of cards from other collectors or dealers who are checking my sets and helping me complete them. Keep those e-mails conmin'.

  • good points guys, you are right.

I guess it just surprised me that someone
would hire someone to do that...

he was very nice about everything

good to know he is a good, honest seller.

  • Long time reader, but few posts. Enjoy reading what everyone has to say. Excellent points made on every subject. Sorry I don't interact more, but avid collector. Now that you're bored with that.

I am guilty of contacting a few members on the board and have made some deals in doing so. My purpose though isn't to sell my cards off ebay to avoid fees and to make extra money, but to trade or sell doubles to other collectors that need what I have and have what I need. It's all about having fun and to enjoy completing sets and treating others fairly. I've been contacted by others too and find it a good way to interact with other collectors. I'd rather get contacted off the board than through ebay to close an auction early. That I don't like.

If I contact someone and they don't appreciate it I'll apologize and go away.

I've bought from morty off ebay and is a good seller.

Hope to meet some members in Ft Washington next time. Thanks for the time.

BTW Morty24 is a good seller and I've never had a problem with him.

That's it? I demand a live streaming video feed of you falling on your sword. If you don't have one, then crack open a PRO holder and repeatedly thrust the broken shards into your abdomen. Nothing short of that will satisfy us.

I think you underestimate his position. He's not a broker. And while I'm preaching, bitterness always hurts the one who harbors it the most. Just don't deal with Jim and move on. Life is too short for this stuff. (Unless it's me doing the complaining. Then, of course, it is completely legitimate.)

    PC,

Sorry I did not respond--do not mean to be rude--I travel a lot and sometimes the mail backs up and one slips by. I will check and see if I can find yours.

Unlikely I would sell cards from my sets--only if I am overwhelmed....which does happen.

And in case you are worried about my job, the continuation of it would not affect how much I invest in sportscards per year.
