How's about creating a "special" worthless card sets

Hey PSA,

I was wondering if you can create a "special" for worthless card sets, The reason I'm asking if because my son and I have a bunch of non-sports card sets in our closet that I we will probley never see slabbed in PSA holders in our lifetime. Because the $6.00 grading fee for a 100 card minimum is way to high, because they aren't worth anything and probley aren't worth the paper they are printed on. Maybe a set of 60+ cards are worth a total of $5 to $10. The reason we keep them is because the cards look very cool and bring back childhood memories for me. The thought of ever selling them have crossed my mind. Many sets have been dumped off on ebay and yahoo auctions. But there are those sets that I kept only because I had a fun time collecting them during my childhood years.

For instance, My son has been asking me if I would get his sets graded so he can also be on the PSA registry too, even though he's not yet 5, he's also taken interest in collecting cards at a very early age. He see's my cards on the registry and wants his there too. Many of his cards are in penny sleeves and mylar holders some of the sets I have bought for him that I liked during my childhood years are the1979 wacky Packages reprint set worth $9.00 , 1980 Weird Wheels set worth $5.00, 1979 Crazy Labels set worth $15.00, Beauty and the Beast set worth $5.00, Lion King set worth $5.00 and his Little mermaid set worth $2.00 and so on. I usually just buy non-sports cards for already graded by PSA for him because I can get them on ebay for less than $4.00 a card sometimes even way less than that. I'm sure the seller has taken a loss on those cards.

The cost of grading our sets would run in the thousands and we'll most likely never see any of them slabbed or on the registry. So we were wondering if you could create a "special" like maybe $2.50 per card for a complete worthless sets. Maybe sets valued under $20. just to have a keeper set, knowing that if we ever sold it, we'd probley loose a ton of money too. My son say he'll never sell his PSA card collection, but thats yet, remained to be seen. I'm sure he'll probley grow out out it when he's older and start going after my collection of sports cards.

This is just my thought,
Thanks PSA

Great Idea! You have my support.

It might be very good for kids from 10 years or older to have "real" graded cards, even when they are worth nothing.

  • That would be great, I could get my 1987 Topps Goonies set slabbed.

The Goonies is a classic film and the cards are cool as well.

  • Get him started on an older non-sports set that is worth grading but other people's unwanted psa 6 and 7 submissions can be picked up slowly and cheaply. Try a president set or car set or Civil War or Stooges or some other subject he might have interest in. Putting together a set like that over time will teach him how to collect and give you both something fun to do. Mass slabbing of a 100 card $5.00 Mermaid set won't be any fun and is also a waste of money no matter how cheaply they slab it.
