I think the not-so-technical term for that sort of error is a "pile-up". It starts with a die cap, which then sticks to the next few planchets as they are fed between the dies. Sort of a cousin to a mated pair, only involving more planchets and more strikes.
A loooooong time ago B&M auctioned off a similar error, only theirs consisted of 15 mangled 1982 Lincoln Cents. I also recall a pile-up of 10 or 11 dime planchets from the same time period. I also think the federal government may be the current owner of both.

Incomplete planchets wanted, especially Lincoln Cents & type coins.

It is indeed a fantastic error, but I do not think he will get the money he is looking for.
I would not mind adding it to my error collection.
