Grade this Lincoln cent

Please give a opinion on the grade of this 1911-S Lincoln. I know that the photos leave something to be desired for grading purposes, but I'm interested in the forum members imput. The two white specks above Lincoln's head are dust on the coin.

Maybe AU55, but I'll bet AU58.

No way that coin is AU53.

I have seen numerous cleaned Lincoln Cents and that IS one.Possibly cleaned by a eraser and starting to retone.

Coin has been cleaned and retoned back , probably in the Low to mid AU range. Hard to determine after cleaning.

I think Clack is right on the money: AU details net EF cleaned. If it would get past the net grading hurdle, I'd say AU50 - too much wear on the wheat stalks for anything higher.

BTW, I smell dip and deller's darkener...not a pencil eraser. The coin appears to be lackluster yet rather evenly colored - and the developing toning shows that the coin has rub on the reverse.

Coppercoins, could you enlighten me as to what dellers darkener is/does? I saw some last Friday in a coin shop.. Thanks....Ken

Dip will effective clean copper, but it also takes all the color out of it, leaving a whitish-pink coin. Deller's darkener puts color back into the metal (albeit the wrong color). It turns copper back into a dingy brownish color after a damaging dipping. It will also tone down the orange color older cleaning tones into. Basically, it doesn't hide a cleaning, but it does make it a little easier to stomach. At any rate, not something I would recommend using on a normal color coin....it will turn it darker.

AU50-55 by wear but it may be recolored.
