Submitting coins for grading. Where do you stand?
I see quite a few people around here submitting large batches of coins for grading. Are these for personal or business? Seems like it's got to get expensive. I myself have never submitted any and have only about 13 slabs total (less than many submissions I see here). Just curious where other people fit into this continuum.

But all the coins I have slabbed are for my own enjoyment. Some I have sold, but most all were originally with the intent of being for my own amusement.

Generally speaking, a higher end coin will sell quicker and for more if slabbed by one of the big two.
A little while back I offered an end roll toner to JB Stevens. He kind of lowballed me but said in the same breath that if it were slabbed he'd go 50% higher.
I now have that green, red, blue and gold baby in a slab at just the grade I felt it deserved. Now, it's not for sale even at the 50% premium.
I'll show it to him at the Pasadena show coming up and see what he thinks about it then. Clearly, slabbed it's value is far, far more than the cost of the slab that makes the difference.

1955-1964 coin always go to NGC, Frankies and Jeffersons always go to PCGS, Moderns usually go to PCGS. The time factor also plays into it, if it's a so-so Morgan it goes to NGC, if it's a high end coin it goes under regular service to PCGS.

Two were bodybagged so it's helped me learn a little about
what's worth the cost of grading and what's not.
Hopefully, the ones that made the grade will be worth
more in my golden years.

I have submitted some coins, to see if I was making good decisions, I own some slabs, and I own a lot of raw stuff.
I find value in having both in my collection.

Karl,
I never get annoyed at you. That would be like getting annoyed at a puppy for peeing on the carpet. The little guy just can't help himself.
