Any guesses why the First Flight commems are back ordered?

From what I've seen in the trade rags, the orderes aren't hitting at a breakneck clip, so why are the half dollars and silver dollars on backorder (still)? I have received both mint state and PROOF gold coins, but not the others.

Could be be seeing an impact of the US silver inventory finally being truely kaput?

Or are they just having a tough time striking those bad boys of flight?

I agree. It's not like anyone's beating down the mint's doors for these, yet I have to wait 1½ months for one? Why the wait? I ordered the same day they were offered.

I made a call to the Mint today. It seems everything except the toilet is backed up. I have 6 items that have been back-ordered since 7-29-03. The comment is we are trying our best to get orders up to date by 10-15-03. The same story is the 2003 Silver Proof Sets have caused the problem (still have not received my corrected COA).
