What can I expect from same day show grading?

If I bring in non-PCGS slabs to cross over, will PCGS tell me that same day if they will cross? What exactly happens step by step? Thanks.

Whether you submit under "cross-over" service or regular "grading", "same day show grading" is not necessarily the same day anymore.

For example, at this past Long Beach show, PCGS was inundated with submissions and many coins which were submitted on Wednesday morning, were not returned until approximately early Friday afternoon. By Friday, things had slowed down and that day's submissions were being returned much more quickly.

It is not always like that - depending upon the number of submissions PCGS receives and when you submit your coins, you might get them back the same day. However, it is not guaranteed and I would recommend that you check with PCGS at their submission table, to get a best guess on turnaround times.

Or from what I've heard.... you can get a free screening from big daddy, he tells you it has a decent shot at cross. Tells you to go ahead and pay your money and find out

Peaceman, I believe you have to be a collectors club member or a dealer. You walk up to the table
and ask for a submission form. You fill it out or ask for help to fill it out if its your first time. You pay
the fee right as you hand them your coins and the form. Next go see the rest of the show and wait
until the next day or two to receive your coins back. You have to pick them up there or they will send
them to you on the next Monday following the show. Did I miss anything.

What we need is 5000 dollar service. The graders stop whatever they are doing,

and get your coins back within the hour. For that fee you get to grade up to 10 coins.

Just being a bit sarcastic folks. Dont take this in a serious light.

Bear, what the heck are you talking about? $5,000? It is like cable tv, which grew into pay-tv -- if you pay it, they will charge. You want to pay $5,000 so that all but one of your re-submissions get returned in the grade submitted? You can't think of anything better to spend $5,000 on? If you are at a mental impasse, let me know and I'll pm you with some thoughts.

(P.S. 1 - Now I am a big bear fan, so if you disagree Bear, don't mince words, "sock it to me" as they said in "Laugh In.")

So, here's what I can expect....

1) I grab a dealer who's a member and give them my coins.
2) They go to the PCGS table and fill out the forms for me under their name.
3) PCGS takes them and puts you in line behind the others...
4) 1-3 days later you have your coins back in PCGS slabs or DNC designation.

Question: Do you think it's better to submit to PCGS raw coins or in a holder?
Question: WIll they take a "regular" submission at a show? $ 65 per coin eats into profits...

Man, I'd hate to pay $ 65, submit a NGC MS64 coin and have it come back 63.... you lose TWICE, maybe "in the holder" is the way to go?

Here's what to expect:

If you want to pay $100 per coin, you will get them back the same day. (probably)

If you want to pay $65 per coin, and submit them on Wednesday, you could get them back as late as Saturday afternoon, as I did at Long Beach. Actually, they sort of trickled in from Friday around noon to Saturday around 2:00 PM.

If you want to submit under regular services, you may do so, and you will get them back in the normal turn-around times.

If you believe in the coin and know how to grade, submit them raw. Otherwise, send them in for crossover.

Does anyone know where the graders actually do their business when the coins are submitted at the show? I mean, do they go to their rooms in some hotel or what? It would seem they need equipment to do all this -- break out the coin, print the insert, create the slab, etc. Where is all this done? And, how many people are doing this? How do they ensure privacy and security?

I got a 3 hour service on a Morgan at Long Beach. It was submitted raw and it came back a ms68 (by what numispro said it sound like I know how to grade )

I believe they give a little quicker service for the $100 coins. IMO
