It would have to be modified for coin photography (upper light source but it's a good professional stand

My personal opinion is that something like this is completely unnecessary - I get really good shots holding the camera in my hand, and sometimes want to take a shot with the camera not perfectly perpendicular. Each is to his own, but I wouldn't bother.

You must have very steady hands. I could not take and good macro coin shots without some kind of copy stand.

A $10 travel tripod is all you really need. The one I have is about 6 inches long and is the perfect distance for macro photography.

Cosmicdebris - All you have to do is stady your forearms on the edge of the desk or table...it's not like I stand there holding the camera with no support.

  • One thing that's nice is you set up one and then take pictures of multiple images without screwing with the camera!

But I always make the camera move when I click the button so I also use a remote control.

Yes it can be puchased. Go to this website and type KS-2000 in the serch window in the upper right corner. Only one store sells it for $159.99. For me however I'm trying a different route. I'm buying Nikon MC-EU1 Remote Cord For Coolpix Digital Cameras ans 2.5X micro lens to remove the problem of moving camera when pressing the button and getting even more zoom power.

By the way this website is great for buying and comparing prices on the internet!!

Copy stand, $41. Desk lamps, $6.99 each. Light bulbs, $4.99 a four pack.

Instead of a remote control, use the timer feature on the camera. Much cheaper option.

I use the same kind of stand that Russ does. I like it. Lots of adjustibility.

I'm puzzled as to what the light source under the object does? This stand is advertised for macro photography and I'm trying to picture (no pun intended) just what purpose light coming from under the object serves. The only thing I can imagine is taking macro shots of transparencies?

anyone able to answer above question?

    Perhaps translucent small objects?

You must be steady as a rock. Macro photography usually requires extreme steadiness due to the very narrow depth of field. Buy a good camera stand at your local photo dealer.
    All glory is fleeting.
  • I've got one of these stands if someone is interested. I bought the Raynox lenses and the stand came with it, but I don't use it.
A 1943 copper Lincoln will still only buy a gumball out of the machine, but you can purchase the machine and the store with that same cent.

Probably but my camera's MACRO mode cannot be used in with auto-timer...GRRRRRR... image

The Nikon 950 is a great camera but the pinhead who designed it needs a brain check. Why would they NOT let the auto-timer be used with MACRO mode is beyond me....

What kind of stand is that Russ? Where did you get it??

    Thanks

    Jom,

It's made by Testrite. They have a wide variety of models to choose from.

    I purchased it here.

They done raised the price 4 bucks, though!
