Roosevelt Clad Registry Set Sold -- everyone happy!

DMWJRDMWJR Posts: 6,010 ✭✭✭✭✭

I have sold my Clad Roosevelt Registry Set (Mint State only). Until very recently, it had been at the #2 position for quite some time. The sale was brokered by Wondercoin, and the selling price was very strong. Congratulations to the lucky buyer, and hopefully he will reveal himself soon.

For the anti-modern crowd out there, I will say that I got in it and got out of it unscathed, for a nice return, and a whole lotta fun!!!!

Doug: Thanks for the mention and congratulations again image

NO DOUBT THIS SET OF PCGS CLAD MINT STATE ROOSEVELT DIMES SOLD FOR A WORLD RECORD PRICE. A sale was put together by me probably within 72 hours of the coins arriving at my office. The "liquidity" of this collection IMHO was VERY STRONG. The key date coins, which represented a very large % of the overall set probably could have been sold at least twice over in that same 72 hour period if I had to.

One day, PCGS may do what they did with Jeff nickels - namely, creat a "global" 1946-date MS Roosie Registry collection. If, and when, they do, the future may be very bright for select high grade MS clad Roosies.

In the meantime, anyone else who is interested in selling off "pop top" clad MINT STATE Roosies, feel free to PM me. I can try to prove to you as well why I am the stronger buyer out there for the coins image

Congrats on selling your whole set in what sounds like a super deal. With a very few upgrades you could been back. To bad there is none left for us bottom feeders image

Some of the Lincoln cents are more common in high grade but the clad Roosevelts are
the easiest of all the moderns to complete a set of in high grade. But finding all these
coins in gem is still a real undertaking. Finding superb grades will require a lot of time
    and effort.

Doug, I'm VERY sorry to see that you sold your set. I know that you were unhappy with the inconsistency of the grades (ie: fb/non fb) and that before the designation, you had a very high caliber set which I had personally viewed countless times wondering if I would ever achive such a lofty set rating. As of right now, my own personal set is in a state of transition and it will be YEARS before I ever attain such a wonderful set.

My hats off too you Doug.imageimage

I wonder what this set would sell for if sold today?

Still bring a "WORLD RECORD" price?

Exactly my thoughts when I saw this thread back.

Perhaps Wondercoin will provide an opinion. Probably no one has a better or more knowledgeable opinion
on the condition of the modern markets in general and this collection in particular.

...While I'm braced for the worst, I don't really care that much since they are
just as much fun to collect now and I'm not selling yet anyway.

I'm not selling until the low value coins start selling for a fair price and we're not
    even close to that.

It would be interesting to see, but I have no regrets. There were a couple of monster Matte Proof Lincolns I was buying at the time, and the sale of the Roosevelts helped. The 65-present MS set is the only one I sold intact. I ran the 46-64 mint state, 50-64 proofs, and 65-present proofs w/varieties though Heritage.

Thanks for bringing the thread back. It brings back fond memories.

    You are very welcome!

You certainly had a phenom of a set. I believe that the core resides in JHF's set.

CK: There was a coin or two in the DMWJR set that remain finest known and possibly nicest for the grade I have ever seen. When you are an ultra-fanatical set builder like JHF, seeking the very finest specimens money can buy, opportunities like the DMWJR set are few and far apart. I recall OnlyRoosies (Nick) was practically begging me for a coin or two out of that collection at the time I put the deal together for that set. So, IMHO, DMWJR's collection would command today every penny of the "world record" price it commanded nearly 3 years ago, if not more.
