I just sent my first PCGS submission in - UPDATED grades in

BarryBarry Posts: 10,100 ✭✭✭
Used my 4 for $25 special. One raw coin, 3 crackouts (2 ANACS and 1 PCI). Filling out their submission form is a bit of a pain compared with ANACS (only co. I've submitted to in the past) - looking up all those coin numbers. BTW, why are they called Mint State and Proof? My Mint State coins aren't Mint State, they're Circulated.
I'll report back when grades arrive.

    Louis,
I like your format, so I'm copying it...
date and type /hoping for / expecting / actual / comment
1922 No D str rev (was old PCI VF-25)/VF-35/VF-30 (may be bagged, color a little funky?)
    1901-S quarter (was ANACS AG-3) /G-4 /AG-3
    1863-S half (was ANACS AU-58) /MS-63/MS-62
    1795 half raw VG-8 /VG-10/VG-8

  • Barry, first of all Good Luck.
second, be patient. My last sub took two months.

Mint state means business strike, intended for circulation. Proof was not intended for circulaton, rather for collectors.

Grades are in (this message updated with PCGS grades):
date and type /hoping for / expecting / actual / comment
1922 No D str rev (was old PCI VF-25)/VF-35/VF-30 (may be bagged, color a little funky?) Yup, cleaned...
    1901-S quarter (was ANACS AG-3) /G-4 /AG-3 /AG-3 / G-4 was a real stretch, but one can hope
    1863-S half (was ANACS AU-58) /MS-63/MS-62 /AU-58 / Guess ANACS and PCGS see something I don't
    1795 half raw VG-8 /VG-10/VG-8 /VG-8 / as expected

Overall, no real surprises and no complaints, especially for $25 for the 4 coins. Guess I'll have to send the 22 No D to ANACS just so it's in a slab for authentication purposes. Sure would like someone to show me the rub on the 63-S half...

I heard that PCI had color codes on their slabs and the red label was a problem coin

do you remember what color label?

ANACS will net grade it to what do you think??? (if they decide it has been cleaned, artifically recolored,whatever...)

I'm familiar with the PCI slab history. This was a green border, 10 digit serial number, indicating one of their old (reliable) slabs. As mentioned in my earlier post, the color did look funky to me, though PCI didn't comment on it. I'll post a pic when I get the coin back from PCGS.
