Ungraded cards to PSA to avoid cross in the future?

I'm new to grading and based on all the crossover talk, it seems that regardless of Beckett or SGC, etc., everyone wants to cross to PSA.
This begs the question: Shouldn't all UNGRADED cards be sent to PSA for grading in the first place? Why would you want to use BVG, SGC, etc. if you're only going to cross them to PSA in the future?
Just want to get the experts opinion on this.
Thanks,
Rick

Not that Beckett SGC or GAI are not decent companies that hold their own niche or merits but PSA is simply the most trusted name in the hobby.
SGC and Beckett have their customer base. However PSA collectors like to snag that GAI/SGC bargan and take a crossover chance. If they bump up a grade or cross to what one hopes for the value of the card increases in most cases. On the other hand, they might do a crossover just to add another card in their set.

I'm with you on your point. All of my crossovers were already slabbed when I bought them and paid a price accordingly counting that I would incur crossover costs and risks.

Gotcha - all valid points. Appreciate the feedback.

Your question can be answered a few different ways. Keep in mind that most people on this particular board are PSA set registry participants. Therefore, we cross to make a card eligible for our sets. The fact that the card "may" gain value with the cross is just a bonus.
Case in point....recently I sent a 1933 Ice King card to PSA that came back as "evidence of trimming". It was obvious to me that this card was never trimmed. It measured the same as my other Ice Kings and looked beautiful. So I sent the card to SGC because I consider them to be the next best grader of vintage card (GAI is also strong). They graded the card without any issues. Now, I'll probably sent the card back to PSA for cross-over so that I can add the card into my set.
Costly? Yep...but sometimes is cheap then buying a new card.
Remember to put a small ink mark on GoSoxBoSox's 1933 Ice King SGC crossover card - and send it back to him as "can not holder due to trimming and recoloring" for trying to get one over on us.
