Canadian Mint auctions closed - over 87K

The first "One of a Kind" sold for $55,101 (Canadian Dollars) $40,807.46 US

First Coin

The second coin sold for $62,600 (Canadian Dollars) -- $46,361.78

Second Coin

Both were purchased by the same buyer -- $117,701 Canadian -- $87,169.24

Note that Gatewest (Canadian Dealer) tried to snipe the first coin, and lost.
They did not try on the second, but given the second closing price, the buyer must have had a high number on both.

  • Would MrEureka call these patterns or trial pieces?

Are these 2 valid auctions or a scammer trying to make a quick 100K ?
  • They were valid auctions, conducted by the Royal Canadian Mint.
I heard the proceeds were going to charity, but am not certain if that is true.
There is another thread going around about these auctions, and it sounds like one of the members of this board was the high bidder.
