I can't believe that the half dime market is hot unless it's for very high end stuff. The auctions on ebay for more common half dimes are about as exciting as a popcorn fart.
I don't think buying based on what eBay says is "hot" would be wise, but somewhat interesting information for selling.

For those new to this post, here is a more detailed description of what qualifies as “hot”: Within each category, we look at both recent bidding activity and new listings activity. “Hot” products are those where recent bidding growth has significantly outpaced new listings growth and where the bid-to-item ratios are higher than other products in the same parent category.

whoa! every time michael posts that coin I go WOW!
that is the frostiest crispiest crunchiest thickest skinned half dime with original lusterous multicolor rainbow splendored toning around it's little edges! If you buy such coin as this that you like for enjoyment and with discretionary money that you can afford to lose, how can you possibly lose?
Half dimes are hot on that list because Heritage just dumped a couple dozen on Ebay, and that doubled the previous amount listed by everyone else If two of those get a bid, that would constitue "hot" according to Ebay's formula.

I noticed it also says African coins and Ancient coin reproductions are hot!
your car radiator. If 10 people buy a coin then CDN then states that the market
is boiling over. Of course they dont show much in the way of price increases,
but boy is everything stone white hot. Cant believe half of what you hear and only some of what you see.
Some things such as toned Dollars and CC both MS and DMPL are hot, super high grade old commems
with toning are hot, early lincoln cents in extreme high grade are hot and Barber half dollars are not only hot
they dont seem to exist. However many areas of the coin market are just perculating along at fairly reasonable
prices such as type coins. Get em while there only luke warm folks. Spending all your money on HOT could get
you burned. Diversify a bit and always be a bit dubious of the pundits and the guaranteed to make you
money gang.
