It can if you use the dip incorrectly. But a very fast dip and proper rinsing/neutralizing will minimize the risk of damaging the coin. It won't affect the cameo unless it was artificially painted on. The few times I have dipped a coin, it was a super quick one. I don't expect to remove all the toning. Just to lighten it and leave as much luster as possible on the coin.
what is the proper way? I was told... dip in solution 5 seconds... dip in 50/50 liquid soap/water... swish clean.... pat dry on cotton cloth...... sound proper????
