How many of you are working on circ. sets?

I've got a EF+/AU set of early buffalos going, and a F/VF set of Barber dimes started. Had to lay off the MS64 & up Buff. short set for lack of dinero.

Surely you guys collect something other than PR68DCAM Franklins & MS65 CC Morgans!

(Yeah, I'm being a sh!t$tirrer tonight. No one here to see me!)

I have a set of lincolns from 09-95 I'm slowly working on. Most are circulated. In fact, it's more about completeness than grade in this case.

I'm collecting Barber dimes in VF-AU and toned Mercs when I can find them cheap.
  • I am. Walking Liberty Halves, US Type set, and I'm nearly complete with non-key dates of Lincoln Cents.

From there, I'm planning on tackling Mercury Dimes, Peace Dollars, and Buffalo Nickles. I already have a major head start on the Buffalos since I already have a 1913-S Type 2.

I love circ sets. It shows coins that actually did work for this great nation.

Started these about a month ago. The local dealer asked me why I was going to collect this junk. Still have not figured out if he was serious or not. Personally I like them. Nothing above VF will be sought. This has been fun so far. Most of the 8 or 9 coins so far have been bought on Ebay with good results and some spirited bidding on these early dates. I never dreamed that so many folks would bid on these circulated coins. Pretty high demand for them it seems.

  • I have all kinds of circ. sets that I'm working on. Seated quarters, Barber Quarters, and Standing Liberty Quarters are some I'm working on right now. I bounce around quite a bit with my albums.

Circ. stuff is all that I will collect and enjoy. Barbers mainly, but I buy any nice original half dollar I find from draped bust (looking for a nice VG10 or Fine Flowing Hair) to Walking Liberty. I also like seated dimes and dark circulated morgans. I like em' dirty and dark. I like my coins dirty and dark too.image

Here is a common, but sweetly toned capped Bust half I found last month.

Nice half Tyler, I'm a big fan of that kind of toning

  • Love the half ARCO. That's the way I like 'em too. Dirty! Lots of contrast. Coins that say, " I bought someone a loaf of bread.", "I was this month's rent.", "I was in your pay envelope this week."

    Those are the coolest coins!

Those barber halves are sure tough in EF, but its fun to assemble them. I am enjoying nice problem free examples. Its fun hunting them down.

Of course! Circs are the only possibility for me as sets go and it's fine with me. Indian Heads are the "best" circ set I have going at brown AU on average, only the '71 left to go to have all the keys. Am also starting on Mercs, these in lower (yet not slicked up) Vg to F. The point being with both sets, to find them well-matched and above all, original! image

Great looking Busties, there, Arco and Baley! image

I've always thought that grey look with the lighter contrast on the higher points looks nice. (On Bust halves, anyway).

Circulated classic commemoratives, more than half complete:

    HigashiyamaCollection

(plus my early US type coins!)

Barbers, walking liberties, standing liberties -- they would all be fun.

I buy in whatever condition goes with my budget. I have mixed circ/unc sets going in Lincolns, buffalos, IHC's, half dimes. In general I try to stay above VF, unless a rare date.

    PCGS F-15.

Great story behind it. One guy at work wanted to sell someone else some Buffalo Nickels. He knew me as the resident coin expert, so I looked at them, and amongst the 1934-1938 dates I saw the 13-S. I made him an offer, and then submitted it to PCGS for grading.

Circ 1792 - 1964 type set. Here's an example: 1803 Draped Bust Half for those that can't tell from the picture <grin>.

  • Colorfulcoins,

I take it that 1803 draped bust is a dime?

Coachleonard, its actually a draped half. It's certainly see better days - lots of them!

  • Bad cleaning job on that draped half...image

I've got a complete Walker set in circ, now I'll look to upgrade some of the obvious problem coins. Also trying to do a Liberty nickel set in VF or better, but that's tough. Either you find slicked out AGs or premium UNCs
  • Just completed my large cent set...the 1804 is on it's way.image
