I was thinking that the Cali designes (depending on what the mint does) were some of the better ones submitted. They actually followed the guidlines that the mints set out.
<< <i>An aquaintance of mine who works for the Wisconsin crime lab told me that the state has the highest incidence of cannabalism in the US. Maybe we could feature Ed Gein. >>
Ed Gein and Jeffrey Dahmer sitting down fir dinner, that would be appropriate.
I keep seeing sports and dairy, how about some of Wisconsin's more noted individuals. Lavern and Shirley on the ol' assembly line. Lenny and Squiggy leering at the women in the bowling alley. Or, my favorite, Red Foreman and his foot in Eric's a$$. Sorry about this last one, but I love "That 70's Show".
Wisconsin: Beer, Brats, Cheese, Packers, Bucks, Brewers, Summerfest, the highest BRANDY consumption per capita in the US (think Wisconsin winters) and,....Coppernicus!!!

The Gold Miner would be my pick...though the theme is a little used up already. I also like Yosemite Valley", but it does not speak for all of the California's history.
I can't help but feel that the reason we get so many dull designs for the state quarters is that the governors of the states are choosing them. What makes them qualified to make such important aesthetic judgements? So far they have done very poorly.
And dcarr, I think you submission is quite dignified. I like it.

I liked this one :
Iowa: Chosen design not bad....better than the state outline options
Michigan: oooooh nooooo....their final choices are state outlines that look like amoebas under a microscope. They're all similar to this:
Texas: double oooooh noooo.....more outlines from the mint. Why isn't there a nice large rendition of the Alamo in any of the designs?

I am from Michigan. I prayed that we would have a cool design and not the traditonal mitten with lakes. Alas, it was not to be.
We'll use our hands and hearts and if we must we'll use our heads.

I can already see it coming...
How about the Blues Brothers going off the end of I-794.
Okay, I guess we won't be the worst, but we're close.
I never thought there would be this much mileage on this thread!

Just add crosshairs to design #3.

I like the Iowa design.
Wisconsin has proven tough. Some of the old canoe and voyager designs haven't been too bad.
