I can't fathom how the response rate to these scams could be 20%. Catalog merchants would kill for that rate. Are people really that ignorant?
Sometimes they get into your EBAY account in other more dangerous ways. With Trojan Horses and other such devious ways. Make sure your browser is well protected from intrusion while it is in use. They can break in while you are on EBAY and run code on your computer. Then they can change your password while you sit and watch. Beware!
In an insane society, a sane person will appear to be insane.
In a somewhat related way I had this happen. Just last week I recieved an email stating that my credit card had been charged 235.65. No company name no nothing. Just a box at the bottom for me to put my credit card number and my expiration date into. Then a note at the bottom to send the info in order for them to give a refund! DUH. Do you think I was stupid enough to do that! NO WAY. I flushed it immediately and forgot about it. I expect some people actually did put in their card numbers and send it back. Oh Well!

I was hit, but not as bad. I recieved an Email from an Ebay look alike page asking for my account info, which I provided. The scammer ran some auctions using my ID. My account was frozen at Ebay, but I called and worked it out. I wasn't out any money just a lot of aggravation.
Those stupid Ebay verification emails have caused Ebay to put a pop-up on the sign-on screen for me every time I log on, strongly advising me to change my user name to something other than my email address. Fortunately, Google's new toolbar kills the pop-up.

Cameron recently had to change his ebay ID (about a week ago) because he had been using an email address, his feedback transfered and he does NOT have the "shades"! Possibly if you are doing the soon to be manditory change you don't have to wear shades.
Law enforcement looks at this as a minor crime and does not usually pursue such activity. And that's the problem. These guys get more and more daring and become major crimminals as they learn crime does pay!
I partly blame ebay for ignoring then denying such a problem existed.
As for the scammer, one day he will scamm the wrong person and will meet his maker perhaps. I wontshed a tear.

You have a phone number for eBay? I have an issue that I would really like to talk to them about.
I have looked for a number in vain for some time now.
Any help would be appreciated.
"Lenin is certainly right. There is no subtler or more severe means of overturning the existing basis of society(destroy capitalism) than to debauch the currency. The process engages all the hidden forces of economic law on the side of destruction, and it does it in a manner which not one man in a million is able to diagnose." John Marnard Keynes, The Economic Consequences of the Peace, 1920, page 235ff
From the site: "Having said all that, here are the eagerly awaited phone number for you to contact eBay (drum roll ...)
1-800-322-9266 1-888-749-3229
In case you might need it, (when you've lost it and are beating your head against the wall), you might try snail mail:
2145 Hamilton Avenue, # 350 San Jose, CA 95125
Their company hours are 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, Pacific time.
Of course, there's one sure way to get a contact phone number for ebay: become a Power Seller. Power Sellers have a pipeline to real live people. There are 5 levels of power sellers, and the top four have access to toll free phone numbers. "

The President claims he didn't lie about taxes for those earning less then $250,000 a year with public mandated health insurance yet his own justice department has said they will use the right of the government to tax when the states appeals go to court.

However, I would imagine that more than 50% of those fraud victims would have avoided their plight by exercising a little common sense.
I got that very same scam eMail just today.

That advisory is scheduled to become mandatory. You might want to consider changing it before eBay does it automatically.

<< <i>Hmm....that'll be very disappointing, unless they can transfer my feedback. >>
You can simply change your user ID... no loss of feedback...
This will help them in their investigation of these guys.

If they do it, it's no different than if you do it yourself. All feedback remains, you just get stuck with the little icon for 30 days.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

You are thinking about PayPal's phone #1-888-221-1161
BTW - You can talk to people at eBay at those customer service numbers about anything EXCEPT fraud.
