Poll: America's Coin - Which do you think it is?

My vote goes to the Buffalo Nickel - nothing says USA more fervently than a strong proud Native American bust and an equally proud beast of the prairies. What's your vote and why?

I am not slighting the design of all those other coins, some are better from an asthetics standpoint, but from an Americana standpoint,
nothing can touch the buff.
The others are derived from French and/or Greek/Roman designs.
Got quoins?
I wish I could afford to collect them all!!! They are all great coins!!!
The most valuable Morgans I have were not purchased - My Dad gave them to me.

If you consider it from an American design motif perspective, then the Buffalo Nickel may get higher marks because of the native American Bust obv & Great Plains Bison rev and their "Wild West" American historic deep rooted significance.
However, when you also consider the actual coin, the St. Gaudens $20 is one of my favorites because of it's large size, substantial weight, precious metal content, classic & beautiful design motifs, and the gorgeous gold color and luster.
When I consider the entire package my vote goes to "The Saint" -- Just my own 2 (thousand) cents worth...

Actually, I go along with the Buff Nickel, Frank. Pure Americana by conception. Looks cool, as well.
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
<< <i>Would have to agree.....killing them off and putting them on a coin IS uniquely American. >>
Do you mean Buffalo's, Native American's or President's?
I can think of no other coin that is more American.
It's Liberty, draped in a flag with an outstretched, welcoming arm, walking towards you as the sun rises, starting a new day. On the reverse stands proud a strong eagle.

Washington quarter as my second choice.
If coinage would only return to the golden age of the merc, walking lib. and buffalo nickel I believe most of the world's problems could be solved!

I love Ike dollars and all other dollar series !!!
I also love Major Circulation Strike Type Sets, clad Washingtons ('65 to '98) and key date coins !!!!!
If ignorance is bliss, shouldn't we have more happy people ??
the Washington quarter is the coin most Americans would recognize and use
on a daily basis.
Our first President and our national bird always strikes a chord.
But when the states quarters are done they will top it. And they'll all blend
into one American state quarter.
While the buffalo may reign supreme now, I voted other because its days are
numbered.

I guess i'll go for the Morgan, though.

In case you weren't aware the buffalo (actually, bison) was removed from the endangered list years ago.
