On a 1880-P 8/7 in MS-63 PCGS slab. Your insight is appreciated

During the last quarter a PCGS63 1887/6 Vam2 traded for $500. I am a cheapskate and wouldn't consider paying that much unless it was better looking than any other 63 in my collection - but I've been known to be frugal - unless it's an absolutely must have.

Personally, I would have to exhaust myself looking at unattributed 1887 before considering paying top VAM dollar.

I assume you mean the PCGS coin on sale now on eBay. Funny you should ask.

If memory serves, the Redbook quotes $375 in MS63. I requested the seller provide larger pictures so I could determine the VAM (there are at least 6 varities if I remember correctly) and bid accordingly. None were available, and the coin cannot be returned so I passed.

However, it's been difficult to find PCGS 8/7 coins on eBay, I've only seen a few. Best of luck.

Seems to me that a coin in that price range would be good candidate for ANACS attribution. Personally, I wouldn't buy it without the 3rd party certification.
