What to expect on a morgan pf-62 coin?

Is it likely to be hairlined to death? Maybe just minor nicks? I know, must have coin in hand to tell, but I'm wanting to know the kinds of things that drop a morgan proof to a 62.

Severe hairlining and marks in prime focal areas, especially on the cheek and in front of Liberty.

NWCS: It doesn't take a whole lot of very fine hairline scratches to drop a Morgan Dollar Proof to a 62.
Proofs are graded alot more strictly for contact marks & hairline scratches than business strikes.

Yikes, then I may pass. I saw a pf-62 morgan for sale at a price I could reach up to and wondered if it might be a good pickup.

Generally, on a PF62 Morgan you're going to see a nominal amount of hairlines, perhaps a very light wipe at one point, either darkly and somewhat unattractively toned or mostly white with a dipped out look to it. There may not necessarily be any marks on the coin, just sub par lustre and/or lines in the obverse fields and Libs cheek.

nwcs - somewhat tough to answer on a sight-unseen basis, but, playing the odds, based upon the ones I have seen, my guess is lots of hairlines and/or light cleaning.

Man, you called it. I can see those lines in the pic. I wasn't sure if that was the photo or the coin. But you described where the lines were perfectly. The color is OK on it, but it is also dark. Probably why it is affordable (relatively )
