Here's a new one from PCGS...differing submission receipt dates

I sent three submissions -- two regular and one economy -- in the same box to PCGS. All arrived on Sept. 10 as confirmed by their customer service e-mails. I checked the submissions for the first time today -- although I was not expecting results, mind you -- and find that one regular submission is marked as received on Sept. 10 and the other on Sept. 17, despite the e-mails. The confirmation e-mails were received on Sept. 10, shouldn't that be the clock on when the 15-day clock (padded for Long Beach) starts running? I have e-mailed PCGS and will keep you posted on their answer ...

Good luck. I have had submissions in the same package checked in on different dates.
They will probably tell you the "clock" does not start until the coins are checked in.

And checked in means entered into the computer, not when they are noted as received. They are normally entered into the computer and the clock actually starts a day or two AFTER they are "Received". So the clock on one regular submission probably began on the 11th or 12th, and the other probably started on the 18th or 19th. That means the 15 day clock on the second submission started almost 10 days after the package actually got there. That's one way to keep within the guarantee time.

I've dropped off all my submissions in person at PCGS for several years. Starting last year, the day I drop them off (and get an initialed invoice receipt for) is NOT the date that shows up when I do a "Submission Status" check on the internet. This happens almost all the time now; usually by 1 or 2 days, and sometimes by three. image

A few months ago on the Q & A Board I asked Mr. Hall to please explain how/why this happens, but I guess it never reached him. image

Don't you just love getting the service you thought you paid for?

    When in doubt, don't.
  • So in reality your coins could sit on someone's desk for a year and the clock would not start until they log them in? And if they finish the grading within 15 days from the log in date that would be considered "On Time"?

I can think of a dozen reasons not to have high capacity magazines, but it's the reasons I haven't thought about that I need them.

This recurring theme should be of great concern to any Coin Universe shareholders (I'm not one). Forgetting about numismatics for the moment, it indicates a serious customer relations problem exists for the company. I am a member of both the PCGS and NGC collector clubs and am in the process of preparing submissions. Originally, I had planned to send most of the coins to PCGS. Given the apparently severe service problems at PCGS I now rethinking that decision and may send most of the coins to NGC instead. Looking at the company from a business standpoint, there have been signs of problems at CU evident all year long.
    All glory is fleeting.

As far as their guarantee goes, Yes.

24-hour update: Still no response from PCGS to my e-mail on the arrival/check-in dates that differ by one week ... image
