I guess I'll never see any of his images. I refuse to add software to my system for something (simple image viewing) that should not require it.

Is that artifical toning? Break out the rope image

That coin looks AT to me.

    Colors are floating.

    Anybody else think the same?
  • PlacidPlacid Posts: 11,299 ✭✭✭
His feedback has some comments like another AT coin.
At least the mint made 800 of those.

Some aspects of the photography I like but the lighting they are using gives the coins a very unnature look.

I dunno about AT, but apparently I have the right flash player, 'cause the pics worked. Very neat how you can zoom in and manipulate the pics, but not very useful if half the people looking can't see 'em!

That could be real album toning, I suppose. It's pretty, anyway.

That is really slick ... nice coin, as well. Russ, Flashplayer is a very common add-on, don't let it scare you ... image

Mine worked too without installing anything but just had to wait awhile. AT threat seems high looking at it, may catch heat from the raw lovers here but why would a nice coin like that not be in plastic unless????
  • CaseyCasey Posts: 1,502 ✭✭
Wow. Russ I think you're missing out here. The viewing options are pretty cool with the zoom feature. And the images are stunning.

IMO, seller has many cleaned, fingerprinted and re-toned things for sale. And I do mean "Things."

All software vendors recommend you upgrade your "normal" software in order to keep up with security, technology, etc. If you upgrade to Netscape 7 or Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, you will AUTOMATICALLY get the flash player required. I don't consider that "added" software.

Thing is, you have to live with the fact that technology changes, and if you've had your computer for a year and haven't upgraded anything on it, you're not only missing out on better technology, but you're foolishly opening yourself up to the inevitable security holes that have been exploited by those with nothing better to do.

In the same respect, I guess in your opinion it would be proper to buy a 50 year old house and claim that central air conditioning would be "added stuff" that you shouldn't need. Same analogy, and it doesn't hold water.

old cleaning and re-NT'ed, as with most toned obsoletes. NGC/PCGS will grade it if the cleaning turns out not to be too harsh. It looks great to me but I would not pay a crazy price without the big two platic wrapped around it.

I agree they appear that way but something tells me that part of that very negative appearancce is the lighting and camera settings used to take the pictures. Either that or someone made a very, very, very poor attempted at dipping and retoning coins that were no where near being candidates for "conservation."

  • I would like to know why some of the larger internet dealers are not using this image technology. The images, and the ability to navigate them, are fantastic!!
As far as AT or not.......I will have to go against the crowd here. While I would not pay huge money for any of them, I do believe some of the coins are original. Like someone already said, maybe lightly cleaned at some point and re-toned.... but not AT. I put a few on my watch list.

I'm no expert on toning (help JBSteven or GSAGUY), however that's one drop dead gorgeous Toned Proof Seated Liberty Dollar !!! It's just a really pretty coin (if the coloration on it is environmentally stable)!!

Maybe it glows so beautifully because it's radioactive!!! image (not really -- but I figured that I could scare away some competitive bidders that way...) imageimage

    Russ,
You really NEED to go to www.windowsupdate.com (if you have Windows) and get the latest security updates and upgrade to the most recent browser. Let the program scan your system (it is not spyware) and accept the updates. It's kinda like getting innoculated against things like West Nile and SARS. Plus a JAVA viewer is not a simple viewer, it is an interactive viewer. Try it, you'll like it image

  • Well, I'll register a minority opinion. image

I think that "image technology" stinks. It forces me to use a small little window (the Flash player boundaries) and zoom in on a small portion of the coin. Meanwhile, I have a screen large enough to accommodate the entire enlarged image and can't use it.

Zooming in is fun for a couple minutes then annoying. I'd prefer just plain ol' pictures. Show the small one, and if you click on that, pop open a new window with a full-size one and let me look at it as I like... all at once, scrolling, in an image editing program, whatever.
  • AT all the way.

I bet this dog has been BBed by the best, hence its raw sale.

Why on earth would anyone sell a nicely toned MS Seated $ w/o the slab on ebay? Because that's the only place where suckers bid every minute.
  • My guess is that Russ didn't install this because of all the garbage that comes along with it, meaning those stupid animated flash ads at every other site you visit. I've run my PC without it for months as well for this reason. Invariably, I get to something though that needs flash to work properly so I do break down and install it.

As far as the imaging technology goes with his auctions, I could take it or leave it. I will say that it is rather novel, but as some others have stated, if you're excluding people or causing problems for others to view the images you're not helping yourself.

And on the AT-NT, if you look closely, he's sure got a lot of similar looking toning. I'm not saying it's AT for sure, but I get leary when nothing is certified and it all has the same look. In Phanton's defense, I did once purchase a toned SLQ from him some time back and I would swear that it is NT, but it's not nearly as vibrant as most of the other stuff he sells.
