Proposed New Guidelines For Selling Coins On The Registry Forum.

Perhaps to further minimize the number of threads we wade through and especially here on the registry forum, maybe when sellers have some "registry worthy" items to sell, they can use the same thread over & over but just edit the title and main post as appropriate for their current offerings. I've been doing that for over a month now link instead of putting a new thread each time I had something else to sell.

It seems the general consensus is that it's OK to sell "registry worthy" coins (top pop or 1 less or so) but there are probably still some members that object to this practice. To further cooperate with those we may have a different opinion with (and to avoid majority tyranny) and respect the rights of the minority as well, perhaps we could try what I suggest.

Just a thought to make it a little more user friendly around here. image

  • For the record: Im 100% in favor of selling -- and buying -- coins here on this forum, and I have done both. Cheers, alan mendelson
  • I hope you don't think that I thought anything different. I was just responding to your observation about all the threads today being about prices, etc. I thought I'd inject something a little different to think about. imageNow don't no one go an make a joke about the word "inject" image

  • I like the way onlyroosies did it. He just stated in the post that the coins were available on the BST board. Very professional. Although I don't mind listing the coins here either.

Back when I had Registry coins for sale, I just listed 'em on BST and put a link to them here.

On the Darkside forum, when we sell something, we put "SSP" in the title, so everyone knows it's shameless self-promotion.

  • Another possible benefit to sellers of re-using the same thread is that people could subscribe to your thread so every time either you ttt'd it with new stuff they'd know to look.

Using another thread really means nothing, nothing goes on here anyways. Why can't you list a price if you are selling here instead of POR? That is the true sign of a spammer.

(Of course, I will never buy from anyone who uses this board to sell, so who cares what I say. Those who sell here do not seem to mind pissing off potential customers. I never had any trouble with the BST board. I bought the most expensive coin I have ever bought off the BST board, and found the most valuable coin in my collection from a link on the BST board. Guess the lazy ones need this forum.)

Roger: Frankly, I get sick of seeing month old for sale ads here. Keep it fresh and let the old ones die is my thought. image

I agree. I think it's "shot taking" at it's finest to only list POR. But the thrust of my post was to recognize that sell posts will continue here and to offer a suggestion as to a way to make it less unpalatable to those that share your views - WHICH YOU'RE ENTITLED TO HAVE. image

    WC:

If I said the sky was blue would you disagree with that also? image What are you talking about RE: month old sell threads? I beleve all that is pertinent (as too the "freshness" of the thread) is the title and the main post detailing what's for sale or what someone wants to buy. Ignoring for a moment that what I suggest might "make you sick" please comment on the potential merits (or lack thereof) of it that I outlined. image
  • An interesting analysis of all buy/sell posts on the registry forum over the almost 286 threads still visible:

    43 sell posts & 10 buy posts

Most members only made 1 post: 22, 4 made 2, 1 made 3, 2 made 4, 2 made 5, & 1 made 8. So by my logic we could've had 29 less posts (over 10% image) clogging up the boards - & YES, I'm guilty of adding 2 too many (IF the consensus is to reuse 1 post over & over). image

I apologize if any misspellings or inacuracies in advance.

I believe the current system is working fairly well. My only objection is the TTT practice on the sale threads here. If you dont have something useful to share, then let the thread go. This forum does not have that many new threads and there is always the BST forum.

It would also be nice if the more generic material was not advertised here, but that is a qualitative issue and thus one that will always be subject to interpretation.

I must say that I really enjoy the high end coins that I will never be able to afford. I dont care if it is free advertising for someone as truely rare coins are always nice to see. Who cares if there is a price listed next to the eye candy.
