Pictures: Show the Pretty coins you bought at Long Beach

Found this 1956P PCGS MS67 on the floor and just had to buy for the color - unfortunately not Full Bands. What great coins did you buy - post your pictures!

  • I don't know what tables you guys went to but the market seemed very dry of any decent material at the show. The early commem's were very nice but this is my first show in quite a long time that I haven't spent a single cent in all three days of attendance. I suppose I'll save my money, some good coins seem to be popping up on eBay now. I wonder why??
  • I bid what I thought was strong money on several lots that were being auctioned there. I won only one item and it's something that I usually don't collect, but it caught my eye.

The 23-D is slightly more orange than in person as this is how Heritage does their gold it seems. I hope to get better shots of my own eventually. image

That is a cool clash, for sure! image

I had an earlier Bust quarter with a pretty strong clash:

Thanks for the compliments. One dumb question: I thought the mint started using closed collar, steam presses in 1836, but this is the smaller of the two capped bust quarters and it looks like it was struck in a closed collar? Being struck on a steam press, does this then make it a modern coin? I know half dollars were open collar until late 1836 and closed collar after that.

That 1834 quarter is interesting because it isn't the usual die clash. Are you sure it wasn't double struck? The clash should be a impression on the coin not a positive relief. Also that is at the deepest part of the die which should be almost impossible to clash.

I guess it is a negative impression after all. But still very unusual. how do you clash the cneter deep portion and not the fields?

  • I don't have pictures, but I'll share the coins I bought. Nothing high end or impressive, but I managed to fill a lot of holes in my Dansco type album:

1976-S Eisenhower Dollar - Silver Proof
1883 Liberty Head Nickel No Cents - BU
1829 Capped Bust Half Dime - VF
    1925 Peace Dollar - BU
    1917-D Standing Quarter Type 1 - VF
    1926 Standing Quarter - AU
1946 Booker T Washington Commem Half - BU
1935-S San Diego Expo Commem Half - Gem BU
1925 Stone Mountain Commem - Gem BU
1909 VDB Cent - AU (Nice dark color)
    1943 Steel Cent - BU

I'm really pleased at the commemoratives, especially the Stone Mountain. It may actually be a slab candidate for slabbing somewhere up the road.

    For my Walking Half album:

    1937 VF
    1942 EF
    1939 AU

Also bought a 1944-S Philippines 50 centavo piece in BU, and two Panama 1 Balboa pieces in AU dated 1947 and 1953.

I saw some raw toned Morgans that looked interesting for reasonable prices, but I want to get better at identifying artificial toning before I go there.
