Help with Vam #

Could a forum member with a variety book tell me what the pick up points are for a 1883-CC vam-6 coin. What is the rarity?

Thanks,
Bill

Some coins (not all) have a very short horizontal "dash" of raised metal immediately under the bottom of the second 8 in the date.

The 1 and first 8 in the date are slightly doubled -- meaning it may take a fair amount of imagination to see it. On the 1, look on the right side of the vertical shaft. On the 8, look at the left inside of both loops. According to the big VAM book, the doubling is mostly on the surface of the numbers, which makes it a bit trickier to see.

The 1883-CC VAM 6 is rated R-3 for rarity, which more or less means no one cares. In fact, there are no 1883-CC VAMs that are regarded as rare or desireable -- as is the case with the great majority of all VAMs.

Read that to mean, don't expect to pay or receive a premium for it. Most CC dollars are desireable, particularly to silver dollar collectors and moreso to CC dollar collectors.
