50% on NGC Upgrades!

On Wednesday I submitted 6 of my toned Peace $ for show grade review and I'm pleased to report that 3 of them upgraded. I had a 1927 go from a 62 to a 63, a 1935-S go from a 62 to a 63 as well and I even got a * on my 1925. It stayed a MS65, but this coin really does deserve the *

If you don't sell or don't really care about the money, then this doesn't really mean anything. I'm not a dealer. I don't make my income from selling coins. I'm a collector. I don't even pay attention to what I paid for a coin.
When I start worrying about the money, then this isn't a hobby anymore, it's a business. I already have one of those to worry about.

OK - very serious question then: If so, then why care what holder they are in? Isn't the coin the same no matter what the grade on the holder? Why give NGC [or PCGS for that matter] cold hard cash to up the grade if it just doesn't matter?
And as for resubmitting them, its more of a test of my skills. As I develop my grading abilities, I think it's a test against what the graders say the grade is.
The only series I know well enough is the Peace $. I thought that these 6 coins were undergraded, so I resubmitted them to see if I was right. According to NGC, I was right on 3 of them. The other 3, I bombed. It's a learning curve.
And of course, it also for the Registry game. Not that I'm going to be anywhere near the top, but it is a little bump.

No - not at all. I was seriously curious. Those were two very good reasons. But I asked because so much money gets thrown at the grading services sometimes for no reason at all. I know of someone who submits about 5 coins per show just to throw mud at the wall. Even when they finally hit, they are so far behind financially that it just doesn't make sense. Just the thrill of gambling, I guess!
