Toned grades from PCGS with pics

Got three toned pieces back from PCGS - grades weren't bad, I thought the Kennedy's could've done better, but they're ok - so whatcha think?

Nice coins Frank. Grade won't be what sells em if you let them go.image

  • Nice picking. I agree with you that the Kennedy's could have done better, especially the '67.

Wrong...this thread is only 33.3% excellent image.

    Frank

All attractive coins but I'm hoping they'll end the Kennedy Half series and replace it with the John Adams half dollar image.

SWEET. I'll bet they were really helped by that 40% silver in there. I doubt clad would turn out so cool.

A John Adams half with a nice naval motif would be a very nice tribute to both the president and the arm of the service he helped found image
  • Hi Frank,
How much will that increase their value? Let's say the Franklin......what would you get for it raw and what do you expect it to bring in now?

That is a 100% excellent idea.

  • Pam - that would be the $64,000 question. Generally speaking 55 Franklins don't come with this kind of toning - usually it's either dark brown or grey. As such, I guess the question would really be how much would someone fall in love with it to pay an extra premium for something like this. CU lists the coin at $200 - which means generally you can find it anywhere from $90-100. I think the coin is pretty enough to maybe warrant a $150 price range to $175 price range, but who knows! image

  • I love the colors on the Kennedy's

they both seem to have great eye appeal

are they lacking luster or do they have weak strikes (on reverse) that keep them down a pt or 2?
  • The Kennedy's are gorgeous no brainer end roll coins - I picked them up in two totally different locales one here in Alabama, one in Kentucky - I also have one that's toned just like this on the reverse, and is being graded at NGC - don't ask why, I think I was just paranoid at the time image

    Anyway, they are beauts! image

  • Nice 55, hard to find without ugly toning, let alone the grade! This thread was 100% excellent until you mentioned one went to NGC, now its 75%!
