  • I saw in the page that just had 1 bid. Probably the last coin to complete the set image

The neat MS Franklins in the sale, IMHO, went for "giveaway prices" overall. Yes, I saw that 1955 and pondered if someone had simply reserved it way too high, based upon an older sales record?

Anyway, back to giveaway prices comment - I believe I had close to $9,000 to bid on (4) Franklns in the sale and won the 4 lots (with virtually no competition on any of the lots) at roughly $2,500 for all 4!! One lot I was prepared to spend $1,725 on and won for less than $150!!!

And, yes, the 1950 MS67FBL likely did sell at $25k, plus commish, but, I suspect (just a guess here) the high bidder may have been fighting a reserve, as the owner of the coin obviously was aware what a "pop 1" was worth in this market.

One final comment - a major dealer/auction participant in MS Franklins did not make it to the show/auction and I am confident that is perhaps why a coin like the possible $1700 auction value piece brought under $150 on this day. The absence of merely 1 key player in a series can have a great impact on an auction price I believe.
