Anyway, back to giveaway prices comment - I believe I had close to $9,000 to bid on (4) Franklns in the sale and won the 4 lots (with virtually no competition on any of the lots) at roughly $2,500 for all 4!! One lot I was prepared to spend $1,725 on and won for less than $150!!!
And, yes, the 1950 MS67FBL likely did sell at $25k, plus commish, but, I suspect (just a guess here) the high bidder may have been fighting a reserve, as the owner of the coin obviously was aware what a "pop 1" was worth in this market.
One final comment - a major dealer/auction participant in MS Franklins did not make it to the show/auction and I am confident that is perhaps why a coin like the possible $1700 auction value piece brought under $150 on this day. The absence of merely 1 key player in a series can have a great impact on an auction price I believe.
