New record price for 1961 PSA 9??

This is definitely a champ and not a bum: PSA 9 Common

Pop. 2

I paid less than that for my entire set!

Wow, for over $2k, I'd like 50-50 centering anyway.

    THREE people bid over $1000.
That is truly a hot card!

What's interesting is that out of the high numbers...Sheldon isn't anywhere close to being the toughest. And that card is a slider 9 based on centering. I haven't seen any commons go for more.

True! But a low pop Yankee of the fabled '61 year is a dangerous combination...jay

I think the POP 2 was the main driving factor...that is some crazy money.

    Jay,
You are correct on your assessment of this card. #2 bidder is a Yankee collector. #1 bidder is completely crazy. I bid 3x smr. Most Sheldon 8's sell for 2-3x smr. Buckwheat has the other 9, so this one, even with the slider status went big. Maybe when the pop gets to 5 or 6 the price will fall, and get down to the 2-3x smr I'm willing to pay...

I remember when low pop 8's were selling the same way.(some 8's still are) That was 3+years ago.

Just for the record almost all 65 hi numbers from this set, sell for 2-3x smr in psa 9. Add in the Yankee factor and BANG!!
Some hi# 8's still command many x smr...
