Nobody Liked this coin....

It did not make the reserve it looks like. Hmmm...

But I did like this one. No confirmation from Heritage yet but my bid was higher than the winning bid. Sort of White but the Off White I like.

What did everyone else get either by auction or being there in person ?

    Ken,

I saw that coin (1921-D) when I came home from work... I went on my run, and was considering if I should buy it. Well when I got home from the run the coin was gone. Congrats! I think you have a bargin there.

I may have picked up a 1919-D, no confirmation yet either.

    Edited to add (1921-D)

Someone bought the 21D ? I saw it this morning but have not been to the Heritage Site tonight. Fooey again. The picture I have is because I originally bid on the coin but not enough to even win the internet portion.

    Ken,

When I looked at the coin it was in the BUY NOW mode for $1300.65. If you check the archives, it said it sold for that.

$1300.65 whats the deal with that price? I think the internet bidding closed at $1100.00 and with the 15% the total would have been $1265.00. It was that close to reserve and did not sell. Maybe people were bidding against the consignor. Thats my only guess. image

By the way I think on the 35S I was bidding against the consignor also. I bid early on it and got blown out of the water quickly so a postion was taken in the shadows untill late and then the final bid was posted. Geez no one bid again. Imagine that. image Still the auction price with juice is $150 lower than some web sites. Of course maybe the coin is a dog.

    Ken,

My April bluesheet shows a bid of $1300 and a market of $1675. Aren't those sheet suppose to be accurate? Maybe I don't read these things right. Isn't bid wholesale, and market what the public would pay at a dealer? Straighten me out here. I must be paying too much if I'm reading these sheet wrong.

    Totally confused,

I had looked at the lots early in the week, and had my eye on that '35-S, Ken. I had to work late, lost track of the time, and never put in a bid. Oh well, they may not come along every week, but they are more available than the others that I need. I'll try to be more on the ball next time.image

Wow....Thanks Jim for working late. That saved me some bucks as I would have went higher. The only ones I have seen lately were $600 or higher.

  • Tony - blue sheet is for sight unseen prices. If you are a market maker you are supposed to just buy the coin at the bid price and sell it at the ask without even looking at the coin. The grey sheet is for sight seen coins.

Coins are not as liquid as other things and market makers are not forced to honor their bid/ask as far as I know. Many dealers widen the spread between bid and ask. The sheets may not be totally accurate anyway. So actual prices can be pretty far away from the sheets.

Also prices may have changed since April image

I can't afford to even look at the 1921 or the 1921-D in MS. Atleast not right now, maybe someday

Sure you can. You have money in the bank with the AU 21 you own. The spreads are not huge from AU through MS64. Thats how I look at it anyway. image All you have to do is find them. Easy said Huh ?

I did not get any confirmation yet but it seems I snatched the 35-S in 67FB ( totally flawless example indeed) ...I may have a 66FB on Ebay later on - mine though is nothing special - typical 66FB.

Dunno what happenned with the 21-D looks hardly ever says the story ..
    Congrat's Ken on the 66FB!!!

Okay Darn It.....I was trying to be a Sly Fox on the 21D. I actually thought I had the coin when Tony said it had vanished from the site. Confirmation came today on the 35S but not a word on the 21D. Sheeesh....maybe next time. Crushed again on a coin I liked....well anyway from the picture.
