First Post......Latest Submissions

Hi Guys,
Having been an avid reader of these boards for a couple of months now, I felt it was about time I joined the fray!
A few words about me..... I am in the UK and have collected cards of all types for almost 30 years now. Since discovering ebay and more recently PSA I have become increasing involved in collecting vintage/antique sports cards. My main areas of interest are Baseball, Boxing, Golf, Hockey, Horse Racing and also as I am in the UK.....Soccer.
Obviously most of the early baseball and ice hockey cards originated in the US and Canada and it is these cards that I am now actively seeking through ebay and internet auctions. My "card" budget is usually limited to whatever I can bring in through sales of duplicate or "surplus to requirement" cards from my own collection. I have also begun using PSA's international services for my own submissions and am slowly becoming acquainted with the various nuances of professional card grading.
"Card grading" as such does not exist in the UK other than learning to rely on certain dealers opinions concerning the condition of raw cards. I must say I am thoroughly enjoying my card "slabbing" experiences (both good and bad!) and have just managed to complete my 1887 N28 set in graded form via my latest submissions. For those of you who are interested the invoice #'s are 4006298 & 276702.
I also sent in a few T205 Gold Border cards which I have managed to accumulate over the last year or so. I'm particularly pleased with the results on these as they are tough to find in VG-Ex or better due to border chipping and creasing. Interestingly, the Kling card which was deemed trimmed was "cracked" by me from a SGC 40 holder! IMHO it was a very nice looking card and worthy of a higher grade? Just goes to show and serves me right I reckon. I haven't added any T205 cards to the set registry yet but am planning to do so in the near future.
May I take this opportunity to congratulate mrc32 on passing 15% complete on his T205 set (they look great displayed on that shelf, the B18 blankets looked to be in great condition too!) and maybe we can do some trading in the future with these beautiful cards.
Anyway guys, thanks for listening and I hope I haven't bored you all with this post. Just wanted to introduce myself and share my latest submission experiences with you. Quite a few of the posts in the past have made me smile and I look forward to becoming an "active" member of this board.
Cheers,
Nick

  • Thanks aro,
I haven't sent any soccer cards in yet. I have a few early sets (1930's and before) in decent condition which I will send in and eventually see if I can register them on the set registry. I suppose the good thing with soccer cards is I can send them all in under vintage commons when they next have a special for $6 a card. :0)

  • Thanks Larry,
Glad to finally step aboard. To my knowledge the only 3D cards issued by Kelloggs in the UK was a series of 16 animals brought out in 1971. Not sure how well these cards have faired Krackwise but I can't see a Giraffe in a PSA 9 having the same appeal as a Pete Rose :0)

  • Larry,
Now That WOULD be an interesting set.
Would all the cards be "star" cards? Which would be the short print?
