I'm curious to find out from where most forum members buy the majority of their coins and would appreciate your poll response below:

Mostly from eBay these days. I'd actually like to buy more from my local dealers but they never seem to have much to offer.

Over the last year, exclusively Ebay, but very selective (which may flucuate based on Long Island tea intake image )

If I had it my way, stupidity would be painful!
  • Because of where I live ( the Isle of Man ) most purchases are from eBay and live purchases left to my visits across the pond.

  • Since I don't have a "local" coin store, (are coin shows), in the small town where I live in Missouri I have bought the majority of my coins for the past 10 years from Pinnacle Rarities, (Mark Feld/Scott Schechter), Larry Whitlow, (Mike Printz), DLRC, (Jack Robinson), and Heritage, (Chris Lane)........ I consider these folks the cream of the crop!image

I have also sold, and traded coins to "three" of the above, and have always been treated fair. Especially at Pinnacle, and Whitlow's.image

Maybe if they see this "testimonial" they will give me a big discount on my next purchase!!!!!image

  • I have bought most of my coins from live auctions from large auction houses only after seeing the coins.
You did not have a choice for this on your poll so I checked other.
Thanks for the effort. regards, MapMaker.

  • Most of mine are purchased at local shows, including Long Beach. A few have been purchased at a couple of nearby dealers as well. Occasionally I'll buy some modern stuff from a couple of on-line dealers.

I buy most of my coins from Doug Winter, who would be in the "national dealer" category if there were one. I like polls and am frustrated that I cannot enter my choice. image
  • Most of my big purchases are ebay or Heritage. I did buy a 14-d penny at a local store. I bought almost all coins from 1940-2003 at that same store.

About a 50/50 split between eBay and local shows/dealers.

I buy mine from anyplace where they do not have to be shipped - generally what I buy tends to be quite heavy, like the 900 rolls of Lincolns I bought this past weekend. Shipping would have been absurd for such a group.

Due to poular demand I have added three popular categories for voting: National Coin Dealers, Live Coin Auctions & Internet Coin Auctions...

We may have to start over because some people selected the "other" category prior to when the new categories were added...

Wow! So far 56% buy off of the internet. I assume that inspection & return priviledges are very important for purchasing coins remotely...

  • The only place to buy is through The United States of Ebay. image
What is money, in reality, but dirty pieces of paper and metal upon which privilege is stamped?
  • slabbed acoins only thru E-bay
  • A lot through E-bay, but with caution. Some through my local coin dealers here in Kenosha, WI and Winthrop Harbor, IL.....but as previously posted their selection is limited. Too few dealers here. -- Anyone have a good site to purchase (really) unsearched wheat pennies... Or am I dreaming?

    Thanks, Pete
