Are PSA/DNA certified cards eligible for non-autographed Registry sets?

Has anyone tried to register a PSA/DNA certified card in a non-autographed Registry set?I picked up this 1957 Topps Warren Spahn PSA/DNA 8, and am thinking about adding it to my 1957 Topps set.

Yes they are - I remember seeing a PSA/DNA card in one of the sets I was viewing. I would call PSA in a few hours to double check. I say go for it ...

I've seen a PSA/DNA 4 sell for $90.00. I'm quite happy to have picked it up. I wanted to get a PSA 7 of him and Banks, crack them, and get both signed at the National, but failed to do so (although I did get a raw 57 Banks signed). I got the Spahn for a much cheaper price than if I did it myself at the show!

So you're the guy. I was hoping to start off a 57 set in style, even though I was sure my $120 bid wouldn't hold up. I couldn't be at a computer in the last moments in case must-have fever took over. I haven't seen a Spahn 8 on ebay lately, and the premium of a nice, bold auto made $123 a great bargain. I think with PSA/DNA pricing coming down, more of these cards will come out.

  • They will register in any set, I should know I submit to PSA/DNA all the time, I should be in their frequent submitter list. Last month alone I submitted 420 cards to them.

  • All I need to do is have the card graded! I think it will grade an 8. I plan to get all three eventualy PSA/dna then graded. Question for you that have submitted do I need to send a copy of the PSA/DNA cert? Any help would be appreciated. I think this is starting to gain popularity!

    Boogs:

NICE CARD! Bottom right corner looks like it took a hit. If it grades less than an 8 and you want to sell LMK.

Send the card to PA. the address is on the invoice. They will place the sticker on the invoice and send it to CA. for you.

    Good Luck.

Also do you happen to have a Boggs 2001 Topps Archives "autoproof" buyback of the 1999 card. I've been looking for a while and haven't seen one in over a year.

  • Technically, shouldn't all of these cards receive the MK qualifier? image

Please don't hate me for this ... I actually think that the '53 Bowman Color Pee Wee Reese PSA/DNA card (I can't remember who it is here that has it) is one of the best cards that I have ever seen - great presentation - it looked like the sig was supposed to be on the card. Personally, I would consider that card the cornerstone of my collection, but technically, shouldn't it be a qualified grade?

Hey James, I was watching that 83 Fleer Boggs auction (Rotmans) and was going to bid until I saw that you were the high bidder and backed off. Let me know if you see any more? image

BKAH, Nice Musial. I picked up this 1958 All Star last night, and while it will come with a C of A from PSA/DNA, I'll be sending it in to be slabbed as well. I wonder if they can cut me a deal since it's already certified by them...

    ---edit---

Kabir was the one with the PSA/DNA Reese Virtualizard (PSA 3). I was going to buy it from him, but ended up picking up another one (yup, there are a few out there as I'm finding out) for $189.

  • ullr,

I picked it up a few days ago from ebay. That bottom right corner is the weak spot on the card but for an early Boggs auto it has great eye appeal. It is already PSA/dna certified. I plan to get all three rookies graded. I havent seen any 2001 topps buybacks in awhile. I dont even own any. I am patient when I buy I will wait a year or 2 on $$ cards and buy cheap. If I see any I will let you know, I get offers from time to time.

Thanks for keeping the price very reasonable! I was willing to go more, but that left some change to buy more "stuff". I might wait to send it in til I buy the other 2 Rookies. My guess is PSA/dna graded autos are going to see some good prices very soon.

You are lucky I recognized your ID, or else I'd have been bidding pretty strong. Boggs was one of my favorite players growing up, and while I already have a couple of cards he signed for me in person, and autographed rookie is something I'd like to add in the near future.

    no,
they probably get lower grades than normal
cards in the same condition though... I do not think
there has ever been a 10 that was signed.

That brings up an interesting question: what if a card is otherwise flawless, but is signed? Does it get/deserve a 10? Again, technically the answer would be no. But, does the presence of an authentic signature on an otherwise flawless card justify a free pass to not receive the "MK" qualifier?

I'm just wondering how PSA feels about this when it comes to grading a card.?.?

I have seen more than one Mothers Cookies McGwire cards signed and graded PSA/DNA 10

Boggs: Unless the card has the PSA/DNA sticker on the back of the card you will have to send it back to Spence before PSA will grade it.

It bites but those are the rules.

Once the card leaves the DNA offices without the sticker physically attached to the card then it has basically only been authenticated for your peace of mind.

This Mantle Card clearly shows the DNA
sticker attached to the COA. This card cannot be sent to CA. for grading without going through the whole process again.

I see alot of auctions on ebay where sellers are breaking up autographed lots that they have won from Mastro, Lelands, etc. The sellers provide a copy of the COA they received which has one certification # for the whole lot. This # won't work if you want the card graded. It needs its own seperate certification number.

Quite a moneymaker for PSA. Its good to be the king.

True, but as in the situation with the Musial I won that I described in a couple of post above, I'm happy that it it coming with a PSA/DNA Auction-house C of A, but I've got no major problems having them recertify it if I want to have it slabbed. It maintains the integrity of the process, and prevents people from trying to slip in fake autographs with the stock C of A.

You should register those in the HALL OF FAME AUTOGRAPH SET it would be kind of cool seeing somebody new in that registry.

At some point (man do I say that a lot lately) I'll be sending in my autos to PSA/DNA for certification and grading, and starting up a HOF autograph set. Too many things I want to do - too little time and $... image
