Only thing I can figure is that it's been a while since there has been a really nicely centered clean PSA 9 Brett Rookie on ebay. It's amazing how many PSA 9 Brett Rookies I see that have questionable centering or fish eyes and print dots. Must have just been some pent up demand for this card. I've been looking for a PSA 9 Brett (regular and mini) for a while now, but they never seem to go to cheap so I just keep waiting.
Once I see something that I really need (want?) then I simply do what's necessary to get it. I was close to bidding the PSA 9 1975 Winfield this evening but decided to hold my fire for the Brett card, since it's one of the two that make the 1975 a really special set. This is one of my all-time favorite cards, and so few really good 9's come up I just decided to buy it. I have a list of about 10 comparable cards, and if and when those come up, then I will bid something that seems stupid to the public at large, but is also an amount guaranteed to win me the card. My list is now down to 9 cards...
The King is right - I usually don't come in second place on something I REALLY want!!
Well. . .the centering on the Brett is about as nice as you'll find on it. From the larger scan, the corners appear to be very sharp (tho it is only a scan).
If this were a marginal or low-for-grade 9, then I would have been surprised. This appears to be a mid-to-high-end 9 so the price doesn't surprise me all that much. Congrats Steve, looks like a real nice, if pricey, pickup.

One of our board members won it, and I know once this bidder goes after something...he rarely comes out in second place.....
