I would guess about seven inches. I had never seen a Mantis before, and though it was cool, so I took a picture.

I don't think they are common around here in south eastern Wisconsin.

I recently saw one of those here in Ames. Was about 4 inches long. I was filling my gas tank when the thing came in like a chopper and alit on the concrete.
