Here's a good one to learn what to look for in a counterfeit coin. From my knowledge it is a struck coin with a subdued cartwheel luster. I beleive these were made in the middle east to smuggle gold into the US when it was against the law to bring gold into the country other than collector gold. Here are the pictures.
