Is This The Kiss Of Death or......

I sent in five modern bulk lots for grading purposes. This is what I got back when I questioned one of the lots:

I wrote:

Subject: Submission Status

Order xxxxxxx was received by you on 07/31/03 and sent on 08/27/03
Order xxxxxxx was received by you on 08/20/03 and sent on 09/02/03
Order xxxxxxx was received by you on 08/06/03 and has not been sent.

Is there was reason that the 08/06/03 was not sent before the 08/20/03 submission?

She wrote:

Invoice xxxxxxx is currently in the Research Room. If you had any unusual cards in your order that required research it will hold the order up.

The question is, if you see that the cards are in the Research Room, is this the kiss of death, or could it be that they are amazed that all my submissions were PSA 10!!!???

Anyone have this happen before and what was the outcome?

Dale

P.S. - I didn't send in any unusual cards.

I've had that happen, but I did have some oddball stuff they had never seen. Are you sure there was nothing weird on there?

I had an order that was a little delayed and I was told they were in the "Research Room" recently. There were some oddball cards mixed in there so I was not shocked to hear this excuse. I received the cards within the time limit and the grades were as good as I have ever received. Therefore, I would not attribute any "Kiss of Death" fear to this.

or they lost your cards and are scrambling as David suggests.

  • Ditto. I've received that response when I've submitted oddball issues. The grades I ultimately received were as good as any and better than I expected.

  • Nope, nothing unusual was submitted.

Wanna bet they lost the cards?

    Does that happen often?

  • Or they may be waiting for the Grader of Death to return from vacation.
I am working on PSA baseball sets in 8 or better from 1973 thru 1976. Also Mike Schmidt & Pete Rose sets.

I heard they are so busy that they are now farming out the grading to SGC and GAI.

    Dale,

I had it happen once before and it was an invoice with some 72 Kellogg's ATG cards on it. When I mentioned to the person that they had already graded several thousand of them, they basically gave me "well then I don't know" and that was that.

In the end, 7 of the 8 Kellogg's came back as 9's. So, I'll take that kind of death-kiss anytime!!

  • Well Frank - all five submissions that I've sent in are from the same year and the same manufacturer. That is why I am concerned. These are not oddball cards. Lot 1 and 3 have come back graded. Lot 2 is there in the Research Room, so that is why I am wondering what is going on.

  • I had cards go to the research room once. To make a long story short....any drink you get served at my bar is on a $6 coaster.
There is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness"
  • I always have cards go in the research room. My grades take the longest to post. Half of what I send in has never been sent in befor, but it is modern how hard can it be? Yep It is an 1990 Donruss. What do you have to reasearch?

  • James,

No research was necessary on your cards...PSA just has a long standing policy of harassing and/or antagonizing Boggs collectors image

    Yep.
I'll bet your grader has been reading the chatter.
    You could be doomed forever.
Better summon the omnipotent uber-hero known as Zar-doze (i recommend using Commanche smoke signals)

If that fails, best work out a deal with Satan. He has Darth Grader by the shorties.
It's your only hope of ever seeing those cards alive, not to mention Soup du Jour.

That I almost believe. BUT WHY?????????????image

What is the time between when you drop your card in the mail to psa and when you recieve the cards back or have the grades on line called?

No answer? But there has to be a name.

Are there any hand-numbered inserts in the group?

    Loves me some shiny!
  • I had my last order in the research room, they said I had some questionable cards, what they meant was I sent in some star cards in a bulk common submission , it took them 10 days to decide wether they should grade them or kick them out of the order, they graded them , it just took alot longer then ususal.
If it's worth doing..It's worth overdoing!!
  • Well, now its been a week and I haven't heard anything. Starting to worry somewhat. On my first submission I had no mis-cuts or mini sized card comments. On my second submission I had 7 came back, of which a few were miscut. Now with this recent submittal, the one in the Research Room its been a week and I haven't heard anything.

I hope that they would email or call if there was a problem. Don't want to spend $700 on a modern bulk submission to have most of them come back.

Plus they have two other bulk submissions.

I hate waiting without any conversation on their part.

  • It takes time to check this submission with all your past submissions and cross reference it to every set you have on the Registry. The Research Room wants to find out if you've been cracking out cards for resubmissions. They are also analyzing all finger prints on the cards and cross-checking them to the FBI database, left over from the WIWAG investigation.

Man, you may never see those cards again.

    Condolences.

Then again, maybe they're like the dwarf butcher who backed into the meat grinder and "got a little behind in his work."
