I am sure the idea wont fly in here but here it go's

For my next set. I was thinking of an Certified auto set or an Jersey/Bat PSA set? Wade Boggs of course, I know I wont ever get my dough back but I dont care. Would the idea catch on or would I be the only person? I dont collect vintage and my basic is about done accept for future upgrades which will be slow. And to pass the time I thought start a new small set. Any creative ideas??

  • I would reccommend asking Joe Orlando. He should be calling you any day now to discuss whether you're going to get 2 free grades when you reach 90%.

I think that you need to collect what you like and not worry about others unless you are doing it primarily as a financial vehicle.
  • I always need others to approve what I decide to do. If other people don't agree with what I decide, it's simply not worth doing. I need people to be there cheering me on as I buy each card.

I agree, but I was curious if other collectors had any intrest in the same thing. Since I collect modern I was looking to add to my PSA collection and to see what other ideas people may or may not have regarding bat/jersey cards. Issues like does PSA grade them all are some to thick...etc..... Just a general feeler.

    Thanks

BOGGS - The auto & GU cards seem like the logical next step. And since you are the Boggs man, I would assume every Boggs card that is licensed and can be graded should be a candidate for your set...jay

boggs - how about certified autographs of Hall of Famers or of your favorite team (maybe the '01 Diamondbacks) or putting together the certified autograph set from some set with a sizable number of autographs (Topps Archives, Fleer Greats of the Game, Leaf Signature, etc.)?
Many of the nicer game-used cards are not gradeable (too thick) or will get low grades because of surface issues arising from the swatch insertion process (plus, game-used card prices are still dropping as more and more collectors decide they don't need to haev multiples of players they don't particularly care about).

I have been sitting on the idea waiting to see if PSA does come out with a new holder. A thicker holder or course. It seems like that would be the next step. Or maybe it is an idea for in the future. Or it could be just a crappy idea. Certified Auto set I thought would be nice I was leanning towards that because the holders work now and I like auto's more than game used. I think that is what I am going to request. And in the 6 months it will take for PSA/ME to compose a list if they will even do it? Now that question of all auto? Or just one from each year ? To make it more obtainable and easier for everyone that may be intrested in such a set wether it Be Boggs or Mickey Mantle.

For the last couple years I've been collecting game-used cards of HOFers and other notables. There are well over 100 HOFers with game-used cards available, and a similar number of autos. It has crossed my mind to get them slabbed, but it's not important to me personally. Since almost all these cards are 5 years old or less, and mint examples are surely available for all but the scarcest autographs, so condition isn't really a factor for me, but that's just me. If you have personally signed cards and want the PSA/DNA thing, that's something else. But look at the 2001 SP Legendary cuts set on the registry. I think some have been removed but when it was registered it was only missing 3 or 4 autos, and it is still very impressive. HOF autograph collecting is a large niche in the hobby, so there's no reason it can't be part of the registry.
    WANTED:
2005 Origins Old Judge Brown #/20 and Black 1/1s, 2000 Ultimate Victory Gold #/25
2004 UD Legends Bake McBride autos & parallels, and 1974 Topps #601 PSA 9
Rare Grady Sizemore parallels, printing plates, autographs

    Nothing on ebay
  • HOF Auto's are already in the registry for Baseball.

But it would be nice if they made one for Football, and basketball and Hockey.
