Did I blow it on this submission?

Hello, I just joined on and sent my first submission to PSA last week immediately after joining Gold club and getting membership material and guidelines. I sent some of my best vintage cards, took them out of screw downs etc. (I knew those were banned) and put them in rigid top loaders. Now I see that they strongly advise using the semi-rigid things, presumably because it is easier to get cards out and the graders are less at risk of marring a card. I understand that but my question is--will they possibly grade my cards slightly lower figuring that I am a dolt who doesn't know anything or take this seriously??? Thanks for any comment.

    Grego...

    Welcome to the boards.

PSA won't downgrade your card because of a shipping holder you used. You might, however, get the card back or possibly a letter asking you to ship in a cardsaver 1. Call PSA customer service at 1 (800) 325-1121 and explain to them what happened. They are very understanding.

BTW...Like to know what you collect and any knowledge on collecting you might want to share.....

I doubt it. But you may think that way anyway, once your submission comes back.

Honestly, first time submitter's are usually inexperienced determining the grade they think they should get and
screw downs could have effected the edges of your cards.

So you may get gradeds lower than you predicted anyway, but dont blame rigid top loaders.

I am sure that they get that all the time especially with the Gold level freebie grades, given those are majority new summitters.

    Good Luck.

welcome to the boards and your psa membership. I agree with carew that you will probably get lower than you thought anyway. my 1st few submissions were vintage cards that I collected back in the 80's when screw downs and those hard holders that squezed your card were popular. those things did a number on the edges and surface which most never considered. guess what , I got a ton of 6's and 7's that I thought were 8's and was left scratching my head. now I carefully examine the gloss , edges , surface , etc. i pull a lot of stuff right from packs or stuff that was stored in boxes that would not affect the gloss and I get the grades to show for my efforts. by the way I am talking pre-80 stuff not the new " triple platinum, super refracted, eggs over easy, super limited ,special insert, randomly inserted crap ". i guess you can tell where my interests lieimage welcome to the boards and have fun

  • As punishment to first time submitters, the grader of death will purposely crease each and every one of your cards as he removes them from the holder. You will get a highlighted copy of the submission guidelines stating,

We are not responsible for damage to cards not sent in Card Saver 1's.

    Or something to that effect.
  • I always ship in top loaders. They dont mind it is their preffrence for card savers. I dont agree , so I ust top loaders but when ship them I will put a piece of tape doubled over and one edge of the tape sticking to the top of the loader so A PSA rep can easily pull the card out. And I make sure of course to package them very tightly in a box so they dont move.

To be on the safe side, I do everything exactly the way they ask for. Haven't any of you every worked in retail? If you have, have you ever had that customer who was just the biggest pain in the #$% and you had just about enough of those people for the day? Did you go out of your way to help them or just help them get thier lazy $% out of the store. If that PSA grader is having a really bad day, who will he take that out on? Just a theory, but one I'm not going to test.

    Wabbitwax,

Agreed... I've often thought of enclosing fresh baked cookies or a bottle of wine with each submission.

Who hasn't pictured the grader getting screamed at by his supervisor as someone puts your cards in front of him as his next batch to grade???

I often worry my cards will arrive on a grader's desk who just learned his wife/girlfriend dumped him for his best friend, his dog died, the IRS sent him an audit letter, his car was repossessed and he has a terrible migraine. Based on the results of a few of my submissions, this situation quite possible could have occured.
