copeland collection catalog

just following up on a past thread, wherein a couple of you guys asked where they could find the Sothebys catalog on the amazing copeland collection.
seems about $25 too much, i'd make an offer

  • Wow, just think if Mr. Copeland waited about 10 years to sell this stuff. I bet he would have tripled his money. (Or a Mastro auction would have probably 10X his money).
There are pictures of cards we'll probably never see again in this book.
Does anyone have this catalogue? Just wondering If there are pictures of ALL the Kalamazoo bats cards, or just a type offering with the description of the set. (As well as other rare sets).

I have my Barry Halper catalogues, my eyes still bug out when I witness what he was able to accumulate.

I'll look for you, but i doubt it had a pic of each one if they sold as a group.
but here's some eye dope for you just the same (wish they were mine).

MF - Wow! These are neat. How about the card back where if you have 400 of these cards (thats alot of smoking) you can mail them in for an umbrella. What would you rather own today?image ...jay

But 'twas a Very Fine Silk Umbrella with Gold Inlayed Handle.image

I'll bet all those dealers always standing around blocking/polluting the entrance to the Fort Washington show could huff down 400 over the weekend.

  • when did this auction originally take place? early 90's?
  • Not just any umbrella, a very fine silk umbrella with a gold mounted handle.

Love the stadium in the backround and railings as well, plus the posed slide in second can't be beat.

MF - Speaking of the Fort, are you planning to attend the Sept show? I'm not going to be setting up, but I will make my Friday night cameo visit, if you will be there then let me know...jay

I think I'll skip this one and instead, shoot over to the Toronto hockey show and/or over to the GBSCC show. I'm pretty sick of that long drive.

I won one of these about a year ago for 25. then she started offering them to the underbidders for as low as $5. I"d make an end run and go directly to the seller rather than bidding on ebay- you should do a lot better.
BTW, the catalog is really worth it (even at $25) There is a lot of stuff that might never surface again.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

  • I love those Old Judges and Old Judge style cards. If I had unlimited funds, I would scour the earth in search of those. They are wonderful!
